Question:
Have never heard anyone say anything about how long before you can have sex

I have heard almost every question there is except anything about sex, We have a very active sex live and I would like to know how long before you can resume relations.    — momtoall (posted on January 22, 2006)

Good question! My hubby and I also had an active sex life and we resumed our sex life 5 days after surgery. Just take it slow and if something hurts or feels uncomfortable ask your hubby to change positions or let you make the movements. Good Luck!

I think it depends on which surgery you have.. it would be a bit uncomfortable having it while you still have staples and a drain tube hanging out of you.. at least during the first week to ten days.. I had sex at the 3rd week, by then the staples were out and the tube gone..and we took it very slow.. but I guess it would be up to how you are feeling, plus which surgery you choose.Best wishes, April.

Per my surgeon, as soon as you want after you are pain free. If it hurts don't do it. It is not like after childbirth and the risk of infection is a real issue.

My doc says "where there is a will... there is a way" he also says don't do it if it hurts. I waited 2 days after being home. No problems at all. I had a laprny.

In my handbook from my surgeon it says to wait 2 weeks because you do not want to risk pulling a muscle and getting a hernia (sp). Wait at least 10 days or else you could be going in for another surgery to get fixed.

Hi Paula, My husband and I have an active sex life too. I waited to have sex until my JP drain was taken out (which was about a week after surgery). Once that was out I felt great. Then when your weight starts to come off, you'll be doing EVEN more! Have fun! Smiles, Jenna

The surgery is not near your sex organs, so you can have surgery immediately, if you had the lap procedure. You might not want the partner with the surgery to be on the bottom, though, so side-by-side or the one who had the op on top is good.
