I expected this in the first 3 to 6 months. When it didn't happen, if anything it seemed to thicken, and now 17 months later, it starts to fall out. Did anyone else have this happen? Magdalena    — Magdalena52286 (posted on December 24, 2009)

I had this happen 6-8 months out, now again. Your hair seems to tell you if you're getting enough protein. I take biotin capsules and use biotin shampoo. This really helps, also as hard as it is for us -you have to get in that protein.

Magdalena, My surgery was the same day as yours..guess what..same thing, a friend at my work told me the other day that my hair is thinning. Have you had blood work recently? If you can have them check your parathyroid levels and your calcium levels. I have primary hyperparathyroidism and nodules on my thyroid. That could be the cause..however, I did increase my protein consumption as of "NOW". Good luck you can PM me if you need help or just want to talk. Marcy

My surgeon told me that when your hair falls out it is a result of not having enough protein from about 4 weeks prior. So, in other words, if you don't get enough protein in four weeks your hair will have this reaction.

My surgery was a week after yours. My hair was a little thin before surgery so I was expecting it to thin quite a bit and it did about 3 months out. I've not heard of anyone losing hair this far out, but I'm no expert. I started taking Biotin before surgery and quit taking it once may hair grew back, but I've started taking it again. It is good for your hair whether it's thinning or not. Protein is the key. My hair is in much better condition now. I get about 100 grams of protein daily. You really must get 80-100 grams daily.

Your hair starts to fall out about 2-3 months after you have not had enough protein. I use it as a signal to rethink my diet.
