Question:
Medical Alert Braclets?

Do Gastric bypass patients have to wear a medical alert braclet? I have no other medical conditions.    — jenwalton16 (posted on February 16, 2009)

Yes you should since it make a differance in how they do medical test and how you absorb medications.

It could be the difference between life and death in a serious accident or emergency...I keep saying I will get one and still haven't. It's a personal choice. I think having surgery info on a card in your wallet would be a good thing if you don't do a bracelet...In an emergency they will look for info in your wallet! They look for phone numbers and donor info from your drivers license...so keep a card with the same info you would put on a med id and keep with your license!

Just had my RNY bypass and the bracelet is ordered. It will read: "RNY Gastric Bypass. Stomach 100 cc. No Blind NG Tube. No NSAIDs." Hope that helps! /Mike

I had no idea we should wear one until last week. I found a website that has absolutely beautiful bracelets. I ordered mine last night, it was a bit spendy. But it came with a "skinny jeans" charm. I ordered the Gastric Bypass Awareness one. I cannot wait to get it in the mail. I know I will wear this one, its so pretty. And also, the company is amazing. Try out www.laurenshope.com I put my name, Gastric Bypass, no blind NG tube, No NSAIDS, No sugars. Also my surgeons number. Good luck to you!

I never leave home without mine, could definitely be a life-saver. It says "Gastric Bypass 10/08, No NG TUBE/ NSAIDS," then lists allergies and ICE phone number. Definitely shop around, too-- once I discovered that there are all kinds of designs available I went a bit nuts. Bought them as presents for my sister (also RNY) and both parents, who are diabetic.
