I was told that these were not a good choice by my Dr. I take Flinstones multi-vitamins. I havent started my calcium yet. I personaly think you should call your DR and make sure these are ok for you to take and that you are getting your stuff.

Per my Nut and surgeon I took 3 Flintstone vitamins and 3 Viactiv Calcium plus D and K per day. They instructed to take the calcium and vitamins at least an hour apart for better absorption. At almost 6 months out I have switched to a regular vitamin plus iron supplement but still take 3 Viactiv per day.

Everyone I know takes Viactive and one of my friends surgeon suggested it. Although, another person on one of the other boards advised me that it wasnt a good choice. I was also advised to take them calcium and multi vitamin an hour apart.

I have been taking the Viactive Calcium which the nutritionist said was fine. I just started the Viactive vitamins yesterday. The other chewable vitamins are just so gritty & yucky! God bless!

I was informed by my surgeons nurse that RNY patients need to take calcium citrate as it is the only calcium that we will absorb. Viactive is not a calcium citrate but Citracal Creamy Bites are chewables and are citrate. Each contains 500 mg calcium and 200 iu vitamin D. I have read articles by people who are several years post op and never were told to do Calcium Citrate and because they took the wrong type of calcium, ended up with osteoperosis.

HI , I am 2 weeks post-op and as per my Dr. and NUT I was advised to take Centrum Multi-vitamin chewable and Viactive Calcium. I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night . I have had no problem with them.

The viactiv multis are fine, the Flintstones and Centrum are not good quality vitamins. I use the liquid by Tropical Oasis for multi and calcium. Both taste yummy and have everything we need in them. The viactiv calcium is the wrong kind of calcium. I used the calcium chewables from bariatricadvantage but they are kind of expensive.

I was also told no to viactive. it is not calcium citrate, so we do not absorb it. I have tried the citra cal chews, but they are sweet and have enough sugar in them to make me feel ick if I take 2 back to back... They were ok if i took them spaced apart I was ok. I am taking Bariatric Advantage for iron and calcium, and Bariatric lifestyle for multi. In addition, my doc has me take A, zinc and biotin. Always check with your doctor.

Hi Michele. You have to go by what your doctor says, but I do use viactive calcium, but did not like their chews for vitamins, I perfer pills for my multivitamin. My last check up (I am 3 years post op, and saw my surgeon in March for my 3rd anniv), my calcium needed to be up-ed. I don't know if this is because of the brand, or my age and need, but I am now taking 3 chews a day, but I am fine with that. Your blood work should tell the story. Maybe in 3 months or so of being faithful to that course have your blood work for vitamins drawn and see how you are doing with it. If it is not working for you, then change. Go by your surgeons advice and then follow it up with a check up to be sure you have good levels. Not having good levels will eventually cause serious damage to your body. Take your vitamins and calcium seriously please. You can not reverse the damage done by neglect. Take care, Patricia P

I have not studied the multi labels, but the calcium is carbonate, which is not absorbable by us. I'm surprised to see so many approved to take it. The ASBS has been preaching calcium citrate for many years now. The BA family is a far, far better choice.
