Question:
Has anyone had ongoing low-grade temperature

I am 3yrs post-op, 300lb-148lb,however off and on for about the last 2yrs I have been running a low grade temp. I have seen my pcp and had blood work done with no explanation he gave me antibiotics and soon after, it starts right back. It is not on a daily basis but I just don't get it?    — Kissie (posted on October 24, 2006)

When you say Low grade... what do you mean? A true fever is >101.5 there are normal variants. You should not take antibiotics everytime you get a fever because this is how resistance is emerging. In fection is not the only cause of increase in temp. It is important to know you range to see if it is problematic. You also didn't mention if you have other symptoms.... body aches, sore throat, headache?

I agree with Stedfanie on this one. Low-grade could mean with the weight loss your body has adpted to a little high temp than what you use to have. If there is no infection in your body the antibiotics won't be any good & your body becomes immune to them & when your body does need them, won't work. I would talk to your WLS Doc & see what he says about it before acting on anything at this point. If it is not over 100 I would not worry about it!!

I am 9 weeks post op and I have developed Gout and my Doc advised me that the Gout was why I had kept a low grade fever, that is 100 degrees or so. I've taken the meds he presxibed for the gout and now the gout pain and fever have dissipated. Check with your doc!

While I do agree that one shouldn't take antibiotics everytime you have a fever, if one goes to the doctor and the doctor puts one on antibiotics, then I think its a good idea to take them.
