I had terrible GERD before my band (July 2009). I took medicine at least once a day, sometimes twice. Since surgery, I rarely take my Prevacid. I feel soooo much better.

Thanks I'm glad to hear that. I only take medication once every other day so may be I will be ok.

I have severe GERD as well as other GI issues. I wanted to have lap band originally, but the doctor told me it would make all those things worse. He advised me to have RNY or the sleeve. He said a lot of my problems would be eliminated, but I will still have to take as much aciphex and Karophate as I am taking now.

I had awful GERD, requiring me to take medicine several times a day, even when I didn't eat anything I had terrible burping and "sour" stomach. I couldn't sleep lying down, had to sleep in a recliner. My Dr. removed a huge ulcer that he said was pre-cancerous when he did my LapBand. That was in Nov 2008, and I haven't taken one single medication since that morning! It was so hard to live with that constant burping, burning, sour and painful GERD. I am free of it now, and grateful. I hope you will have the same experience with your surgery.

I did't have the lap band, I had RNY surgery on September 1, 2009. I had terrible GERD and was on 30mg. of Prevacid a day. I am now 3.5 months out, and I am off of my Prevacid and feeling like a new person!
