Question:
I'm 9 days out, have started eating yet never get full.

I can eat and eat without feeling like I'm full or gonna throw-up, could I have already stretched out my pouch? I am following the diet and eating right, I just don't get a full feeling! Any one have any advice?    — paislieghstar (posted on September 25, 2008)

i am now 5 weeks post and i remember my 1st 2 weeks clearly and if you are on your liquid diet... you are a bit hungry... just hang in there ... as soon as you are able to eat solids... you will feel much better and full!!

hi there- one of the sad aspects of our surgery is not every patient is given the same info. After depeaking with over 100 surgeons- nuts, the general concensus is: post ops are not advised to eat until full, but eat only the protocol foods and amounts whether its 2 oz only of something, or 3 oz only. You stand a better chance of fulfilling your goals if you continue t follow the amount rules, and eat till satisfied- i know sometimes you arent satisfied with only the amt you are allowed, but you will learn the difference - good luck and congrats on your surgery- take care Doc Cindi 3.24.04 - 230lbs and maintaining yeahhhhhhhhh

Eat slower give the food time to fill your pouch, that may help.

By eat, I'm assuming you are referring to liquids or very soft foods. These will pass through the pouch rather quickly. Make sure you stop drinking regular liquids 1/2 before eating your 'meal' and don't drink for 1/2-hour past. A lot of what you are feeling is habit - You are used to eating real food and used to feeling stuffed when done. You haven't stretched your pouch. If you are truly hungry, contact your doc or nut and ask if you can add something in - like beans or pureed foods.

That is probably one of the strangest things to adjust to...DO NOT eat til you are full. This is a blessing and yet so hard to accept. I know that before surgery, I was a happy person when my belly was fed and full...after surgery, I just did not get that satiated feeling and it was depressing and I WANTED IT...I wanted it to feel good to eat and it didn't! That was a hard thing to get used to. When i did over eat...OMIGOD...I was in such pain I just had to lie down and sleep it was so stressful and painful...I AVOID eating til full at all costs...The trick is to learn to pay close attention to your pouch and listen to it...It will give you subtle warnings that you are satisfied...It takes a while to feel it and a lot of focusing on your pouch and eating. If you eat til you no longer feel like you need food....stop...it should hold you for hours...I eat severeal small meals daily...I have gotten my hunger back and I feel more "normal" as far as eating and full and hunger feelings are concerned. Only now I feel very satiated with no hunger and without a full feeling...It was a hard change to adjust to...but I get that very happy feeling again when I eat a little and don't feel the hungries...It's different...But you get used to it...Good luck!

my advice...measure out your 4 tsp or whatever your amount is and stick to it. Sometimes head hunger can be confused with real hunger and at 9 days I would not want to risk busting open the pouch by filling it too much. when i eat too much I hurt. Good luck!! and welcome to the losing side!!
