Question:
Pregnancy After 40

I HAD A VERY HARD TIME BECOMING PREGNANT WHEN I WAS IN MY LATE 20'S. WE WANTED A LARGE FAMILY, IT JUST NEVER HAPPENED. THEN ONE YEAR AFTER MY RNY AT 40 I HAD A BABY BOY. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY AGAIN NOW THAT HE'S 2. PEOPLE I SAY IT TO EVEN MY NEW GYN LOOK AT ME LIKE I'M CRAZY. BUT, I FEEL BETTER THEN I EVER HAVE IN MY LIFE AND I WOULD LIKE THE CLOSURE ON THIS PART OF MY LIFE ONE LAST TIME. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THEIR EGGS JUDGED AS OLD AND HAD GOOD RESULTS AFTER 40 TOO. I'M SO TIRED OF FEELING LIKE I HAVE TO PLEASE EVERYONE ELSE I LOVE BEING A MOTHER.... ANNA    — ANNAJEAN (posted on April 23, 2008)

I am sure you know all the pros and cons about having a baby in your 40's. I had 2 sisters who had kids into their 40's. One had a healthy baby but ended up getting Graves Disease after giving birth and the other had two extremely premature babies and put her life at risk but both are healthy kids now. If you want to do it and your husband is supporting you, who cares what anyone else thinks. Go for it!

Hello. I had my first baby 5 days before I turned 40, and my last baby when I was 43. I felt great both times and had no problems or complications. I "bounced" right back both times. As I didn't have much help I didn't have much of a choice but to get back up and get busy. My children are now 13 and 16 and except for their friends with exceptionally young parents, I fit right in with most of the other parents. There is definitely life and pregnancy after 40....even if other poeple think you're crazy..who cares? Chris

You have to do what is best for you. My sister was in her mid 40s when she had my nephew. He is now 12. She was fine and he was fine too. They wanted her to have an amnio and she refused. She didnt want to do that. So although I am not a doctor as long as your in good health why dont they want you to have a baby? Good luck

I had 2 children after 40 - being a mother is my most important job and even more fun with the perspective of age. I'm a better mom than when I had my first years earlier. Follow your heart.

I have a 9 month old and am pregnant now, and I am 41. Had a great pregnancy , at the end high blood pressure and I delivered at 36 weeks, she is perfectly healthy. I am only 8 months post op rny, It was not planned, I am scared because of this, but the age factor is ok, I will take all safety precautions. YOU ARE NOT TOO OLD...You love being a Mom, then go for it!!!!!

do as YOU wish --not anyone else - you only go around once in this world -- only one ticket to life -- make your own choices --good luck to you :) look at the 70-something yr old man who went back to 1st grade to learn how to read -- never too old to do something you want to do :)

I had four children, first 2 as a teenager the other 2 in my early 20's... I have had no other experience in my life like giving birth!!!! At whatever age. I wanted another before I turned 40 (hubby wouldn't agree)... but, God Bless you and good luck to you whatever you decide! Nothing like being a mom!!!!! Regardless what anyone else says... You do it for YOU! Luck to you my dear.

I'm 42 and have a 2yr old. I was 250lbs when i conceived her and gained 60lbs. but she and i came out of it just fine. She's a perfectly healthy baby and keeps me VERY busy. I also have an 11 yr old. Being that i was very over weight and have asthma, it got difficult at about 7 mths and i was glad to get her out (lol). My blood pressure went up and i had some edema so they took her by c-section 2-3 wks early. She had some breathing problems at first so she spent 4 days at Children's Hospital as a precaution but she was fine. And didn't need any special care. Because she was "premie" she couldn't suckle so they put a very small tube down her nose to her tummy to feed her. Otherwise she was perfectly healthy and quit a hand ful today. I have seen stories on tv about Centurion women, and the majority of them had children into their 40's. They say that pregnancy causes an infux of hormones that acts like a fountain of youth. My own sister didn't start having her two children until she was in her fourties 42 & 44 i think). So good luck, if you are in good health, you should have no problems. Eat well, and take your vitamins and excercise. And don't do what i did and gain a bunch of weight. LOL! God bless you.

I have a friend who is one of no less than 18 children from the same mother (two different fathers). Some of those healthy children must have come along after she was 40. Statistics, however, say thet there is a higher probability of problems at this age. Just be prepared to love and care for a child born with a serious problem.
