Question:
How do they take the staples out? Does it hurt?

Haven't had wls yet, but I have had abdominal surgery with 18 staples. They use a tool similar to a stable remover that unbends the staples. It doesn't hurt ... One staple was hard to get out and I felt a pinch.

It doesn't hurt at ALL. In fact, I was sent home with my own staple remover and didn't want to wait in an ER or doctor's waiting room for them to do it so I did it myself. Took about a minute. It's just like taking staples out of a piece of paper. HOWEVER I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY ELSE DO THIS IN CASE THE INCISION OPENS OR THEY HAVE A LEAK. My only point is that it was NOT a big deal at all.

I too am still waiting on my surgery (April 24th) but I had my tubes tied and a hernia repair and when I had my staples taken out it did hurt. Some of my staples had scabbed over and it was pretty uncomfortable. But, once they were out, it did not coninue to hurt.

As a VNA nurse I took out hundreds of staples. Some you dont feel at all, occasionally one will pinch esp. if they have been in longer than 7 days and skin has started to grow over them a bit. They are only about 1/4 inch long into your skin and only hold the very top layer of skin together. Most people told me after the removal it was much much less painful than they expected. The good thing is after they are out people are so much more comfortable.

I have had staples taken out often. I put peroxide on the scabs to get them off before going to the doctor. Then I press down on my skin as they pull up. This eases a lot of the pain

The staples were pretty easy. As others have said, clean the scabs up before you go. Use Peroxide, and it isnt a problem.
