Question:
2 months since lapband ~ no weight loss.

Can anybody tell me what they are doing to have weight loss with the lapband? I had mine 5/25/07 and have not lost any weight. I had 1 fill and go for my second tomorrow. Very disappointed!    — betsy2007 (posted on July 25, 2007)

I would be freaked out too. Are you doing the phase 1, 2, and 3 diets? I would be talking seriously to my surgeon. Good Luck to you. Perhaps he just needs to give you a good fill and it will start.

Be patient. Lap-Band weight loss doesn't usually happen as quickly as it does with Gastric Bypass. It may take a fill or two for you to feel the restriction when you eat. It will happen, just a bit slower, and sometimes that is better since its not always good to lose weight extremely fast. It is a shock to your body. You just had surgery and you are still adjusting to having the band inside. Healing is important so try not to be in such a rush. You'll see results sooner than you might think. Good luck!

I am in my 8th month post op, and my weight loss has been very slow. I am going in today for another fill, so, I am not real sure what me weight loss is today, but from the first few fills I was only down a lb or 2, I was very upset. One thing you must remember is that once you have your fills, you will not be able to each as much as you have in the past. Your weight loss will be slow, but with this tool, those lbs will NEVER come back! Take things as they come and be thankful for a this tool. It is better to stay @ the same weight rather than to gain. Good Luck!

I had RNY and had a slow and steady weight loss. In order for this "tool" to work you absolutely need to follow it to a T. Any "cheating" will not achieve any results. People who have lapband are not as restricted and will not dump on sugars so you need to be extra careful.

I had my surgery on 1/31/2007. It took 5 fills before I really started noticing restriction. I now have 9CC in a 10CC band. I have lost a total of 65 lbs. Sometimes I would lose quickly other times I did everything like I was supposed to but it took 3 weeks for me to lose one pound. I eat high protein. No bread, pasta or rice for me. No concentrated sweets, either. I exercise 4-5 times a week. Be patient with yourself. We all want to lose alot NOW but we didn't get this heavy overnight and it will take time to lose it all. Good luck and be gently with yourself.

I had my surgery on 5/24/07. I lost 32 lbs. before the surgery in preparation for it. I have only lost 2 lbs. since. Saw my Dr. on Monday and he said that I am doing fine, I just have to be patient.

My first couple months, I did not feel the restriction very much either, but I made sure I followed the post op diet to the T. I also refrained from sweets ate only whole grain carbs and made sure I got in all the protein my nutritionist told me to. I also made sure I ate no more than one cup of food in one sitting even if I felt I wanted more. Much of my first couple months relied on will power and following Dr.'s orders. The band allowed a lot of food to pass through, however I still noticed that it was easier to stick to an eating plan and I wasn't quite as hungry in between meals. If I did snack, I ate things high in protein, and also choked down all the water I was told to drink. I increased my activity once the pain started to subside (at about 3 weeks), walking was a good start. Once I had my 2nd fill, I REALLY noticed the band kick in, and already had developed pretty good habits. The band doesn't work magic, you still need to make the right choices. I find the most important things are to get my protein, drink my water (still have trouble with that some days) and above all, move, move move! I have incorporated exercise into my daily routine almost religiously. My band works for me only because I allow it to. I'm losing more slowly, but feel great! Hang in there and write if you need some more support.

Your OH Profile is not filled in so we have no idea what your doing to make suggestions. Are you keeping a Food Journal and measuring your portains. Most Lap Band patients I deal with have a Misconceptions that the weight will just drop off like RNY. But that's not the case. Are you eating just protein? There are many other questions to make any type of conclusion. Right now I'd only suggest you talk with a Bariatric Nutritionist. Good Luck,

I had my band on 6/27/07 and have lost 22 lbs. I exercise at least 5 days a week & have just started using The Firm work out DVDs with light weights. My doc had me on clear liquids for 2 weeks, full liquids for 2 weeks and mushys for 2 weeks. I start mushys today. The feeling of restriction is very subtle for me, but if I eat slowly and pay attention to my body I do feel full quicker. Jennifer

Exactly the same here. No loss since my surgery. I can tell some difference in restriction with the 2nd fill, but really not enough to make a difference. I go for my 3rd fill today, and am hoping this one will get me started.

I had my surgery on June 8, 2007 - the day after my 48th birthday - I lost 15 pounds before the surgery and have only lost 6 more pounds since - - I admit that I was somewhat disappointed too - only 6 pounds in 6 weeks !!! I had my first fill only 1 week ago and can tell very little difference - patience is not a strong suite for me - - but I am trying very hard too not be too disappointed. Excerise has been hard for me - in the past and currently. I am beginning to walk daily about 1 to 1.5 miles. I got so much encouragement from just knowing that this is not totally unheard of - I hope that you also can take comfort knowing that alot of us share your pain. I also take comfort - that I have not gained any weight in the past 3 months - it has been so long since I can say that !!! DianaG

I had my lap band surgery on June 13. When I visited the doctor 10 days after surgery, I was delighted to find I lost 14 pounds, but am sure that was due to the clear liquids. I've been on solids for several weeks now and have lost a total of 23 pounds, but the weight loss has stopped. I'm starving each evening by the time I get home from workm and I feel I can eat a horse. My doctor scheduled me for my first fill on July 30th, so I'll see if that helps. I wish the weight loss would be quicker but was told to be patient, even though my food intake is much, much, much less than before surgery. Sigh...
