Question:
Anyone have experience with...

Anyone have experience, not opinion, with cooking with healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil. Do these seem to adversely effect you when eating things cooked with these types of oil? I am not talking about slathering and frying things with it. I'm not a total buffoon. Thanks.    — medic3992 (posted on October 17, 2009)

you don,t say what surgery your having, but duodenal switch can have olive oil and other forms,as we do not absorb fats,we get to eat normal, and get to drink with our meals, our diet is basically, just low carbs, and ds keeps weight off,I think it is like 98%,with out weight regain.

I had VSG on 7/31/09. I've been using EVOO to cook with, and have had no side effects from it. Certainly enchances the natural flavor, too.

I had VSG, too, this past March. I have been going to an alternative doctor who has been working on my adrenals, among other things, and has me using only 3 kinds of oils, extra virgin olive oil, almond oil, and avacado oil. My surgeon says I've very healthy (my blood tests are good)and have continued to lose weight, though right now I am on the typical 7 month slow down. Down 125, 170 to go.

I use Olive Oil cooking spray, and also regular olive oil to sautee things in. It's a good fat, no matter what kind of surgery you've had. My surgeon has support groups and nutrition classes that all recommend the use of olive oil as a cooking agent opposed to any other stuff. It's natural and has no chemicals, and like I said, is considered one of the "good" fats that helps lower cholesteral and stuff.

I am 5 years post-op with the Lap-Band. I am at goal weight, and I use Extra Virgin Olive oil quite often. I don't have any side effects except that I totally enjoy what I'm eating! God Bless.
