Question:
Has Anyone had a revision surgery

I had Ryn 4 years ago and i toppled off at 225 (i weight 325)...the smallest I became after surgery was 217 and thats was a year later... Now I'm back up to 237...however I stuck to the rules i work out 3 times a week, eat nothing but chicken and veggies because i can't digest any other types of meat without it coming back up, don't drink the soda or even fruit juice! just water, tea (splenda) or coffee...i even went back on supervised diet and i lost 17 lbs but it was back within 4 months...i spoke with my PCP and she suggested a revision surgery with the lapband...has anyone had this done? if so did your insurance cover it? I have a PPO...what did your doctor say? what caused you to have a revision    — alphaeta (posted on November 12, 2008)

I haven't had a revision but I have had the lapband and I have to tell you that I have been at goal now for about 4 months. I'm not having any problems holding at my goal weight either. One of the nice things about the band is if you need to have things adjusted, it's not another surgery. I hope you get the answers that you are looking for. Call your insurance or ask your surgeon. You should be able to find out the information you need through them.

I do know how you feel. I am post op 6 years. My weight was then 303, within a year I was down to 180 and so excited. Now I'm back up to 257 and that's pretty much where I've been the past 4 years. Unfortunately, due to my severe osteoarthritis and osteoporosis I am unable to exercise (not even water). And I too have been unable to eat hardly anything - it's a joke with my family that I eat so much less than my 8 year old niece. So it is very frustrating. I vomit often - I am on several medications for that as well as all the meds for the other health issues. I've had two endoscopys and unfortunately, Kaiser is just not up to date here in San Diego with bariatric patients. Oh sure, they draw 13 vials of blood from me every 6 months and tell me how malnourished I am and put me on every more supplements and B-12 shots; but I've had no real support from anyone here. My surgery was done outside of Kaiser. I'd be interested to hear what you find out about the lap band at this stage. And what is a PCP And if anyone knows of any support from Kaiser in San Diego I would love to hear about it. You can reach me directly at [email protected]

I'm in the same boat, except I am 7 yrs out and have regained a lot. I am trying to get my insurance approval for the DS - I have been researching revision for a couple of years now and feel that this is the best option for success. If you haven't looked into the details already you might want to check it out. My new surgeon explained to me that back a few years ago alot of surgeons (mine included) made the pouch bigger than the current norm. I always felt hungry and didn't seem to have the restriction that I had expected. He also told me that the DS is becoming recognized as the best WLS and in Europe it has been the standard for years US is just catching on. Good luck
