Jeremy, They start off having you mark about 500 questions true or false in relationship to yourself. Then they run this through a computer and get a personallity results and some area's that are out of the normal, which they spend about an hour discussing with you. Mine told me that I was a very social person and I needed to be comitted to keeping up my social activities and learing that I can not eat or drink with my freind like I use to. He also felt that I would need the support of others, so I joined this web site and atend to support groups for WLS patients. Socially, I still go to about 4 parties a week, but I just frink water, and many of my host now fix something that I can eat, as they all very supportative of me and the progress I have made. New Years Eve was very odd for me, but I put water in a glass with ice and munched on a few veggies. I spent the rest of the night watching everyone stuff their mouths from 6 PM to 1:00 AM. Just be yourself and he will tell you where you are different after about 5 hours at their office. Best of Succcess to you. Bill

Each therapist may do the evaluation different. I know mine did not mark off 300,400, or 500 questions. He just jotted down notes as he talked to me for about an hour. I could have used a therapist my surgeon chose, but I decided to use the one that I saw to get my anti depressants--one I felt comforable with. In my case, it took about 7-10 days for an appointment, and then another week to get a letter generated and faxed to my insurance carrier. This time will vary with therapists also. It takes as long as it takes.

You will find the answer to this varies widely. For example the first poster said something about 500 questions. My psych eval was a 45 minute conversation and everyone who goes to my doctor does a 5 week behavior mod series with the team psychologist. They don't accept pysch evals or behavior mod classes from anyone else but their psychologist and for good reason. This way, they know what's going on. It's a great process, learning to understand what drives "the beast" that makes us eat. Good Luck!

Jeremy, What an interesting question. My surgeon did not require behavior modification, I almost wish he would have though. I had to have a psych eval that basically stated that I didn't have any eating disorders or serious mental illnesses. Behavior modification sounds like an appropriate thing though as 90% of the success related to WLS is dealing with emotional eating and behavior changes along with developing new coping skills to deal with life's stressors other than eating- hence- modifying behavior. Sorry I couldn't answer your question exactly, but, I wish you the best of luck. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC
