Question:
Has anyone taken Diet Pills since surgery

I am 3 yrs post op and am gaining weight. Has anyone tried anything like Trim Spa or anything else to help with the weight loss?    — NANCY P. (posted on November 22, 2005)

I haven't ever heard of anyone taking diet pills after this surgery. I really don't think it's safe. If you re-aquaint yourself with "the WLS rules", I would think that would get you back on track.

My PCP and myself are strongly considering them once my other health issues are finalized and addressed. BTW, I don't plan on letting anyone 'advising' me otherwise either; since the decision is between me and my PCP. The American Society of Bariatric Physicians actually use this additional pharmaceutical therapy oftentimes in addition to WLS in the "final days". When the last few pounds (goal weight) are difficult to reach. DO NOT just take our advice from the website, discuss it with your PCP, PLEASE. I believe that's the BEST thing to do, that way, you will be monitored closely. I might add that be aware that there are side effects...I won't be using TrimSpa though. I'm sure there are MANY others who have gone this route, but may be to embarrassed or not bold enough to say they have for fear the will get blasted about it. Hope this has been of some help to you

I am almost 4 years out. I have taken TrimSpa since my surgery. I did not, however, lose any permanent weight. What it did was make me dizzy and made my nails very brittle which is usually a sign of a vitamin deficiency. It did curb my appetite for the first 2 weeks but after that, nothing. I am currently going to LA weight loss and that's hard as well. The only thing that really helps me is to kick up my exercise routine. Otherwise, I gain, gain, gain. If you were exercising regularly in the beginning and slacked off, push yourself to return to your old regimen. Hope this helps.

A couple of times I've used "Ultimate Slim" by Great Americian Products. It is the only diet pill I've ever taken that has'nt bothered my heart. Guess I need to try them again. After 4.5 years I've put on 10 pounds this summer. As for anyone judging me or anyone else who does.... stoe it. We all need to do whatever works for us. However I think 99% of diet pills "don't work". If they did, we would'nt have needed WLS in the first place. ;)

I have taken diet pills since surgery but not for a long period of time because they did not seem to work like before surgery. I was taking phentermine 37.5mg. It is not my stomach I need to fix it is my head. I eat when I am stressed and just because. I have got to get to learn not to eat when I am not hungry. That is what has put the pounds back on me. I have gone to WW and gained weight. (twice) Right now I have a staple in each ear(acupunture) to help curb my appetite. It is working. I have lost five pounds in about 3 weeks. It is not much but I just do not want to gain. I never reached my goal weight of 220 pounds coming from 389. I now weight 289. I am depressed about it all the time. Whatever it takes to get you satisfied with your weight I say go for it. By the way, I will be 3 years post-op March 7, 2006.
