I was told not to eat salads until at least 6 months out. I waited 8
months and have been fine with salad - just make sure you have protein as
the lettuce really has no nutritional value at all. Rice and breads I stay
away from because they are all carbs. I think spicy depends on the person
- I can do spicy sometimes so I just have to be careful. Hope this helps a
little bit.

Rice expands in the pouch and can cause lots of pain. Bread is not good
until you get to about 6-9 months. I do eat one half of wheat toast when
my DH go out to breakfast on Saturdays but just started that at 6 months
and do not eat bread at any other time. I stay away from the carbs of
bread and potatoes as there are better carbs in fruit which is healthier.
Just what works for me.

Instead of having the lettuce in a salad (has no nutritional value at all)
I substitute it with spinach. So much better for you. As far as rice,
potatoes, bread.. I was told never to eat them. No nutritional value and
that was one of the foods that got me in this position anyway.. Plus I feel
like it may stretch out my pouch as they expand after you eat them. Just
concentrate on protein and veggies, some fruit, yogurt, cheese...Good luck

Buffy is absolutely right. I was told never anymore rice, after all -it's
wrong to throw it after a wedding as it harms birds stomachs. And my new
philosophy is "why waste valuable belly spacd on lettuce" I eat
protein first I am 21 months out and now weigh 108 -guess it's working!

I also never eat bread. This is your shot to eat right -you're just 4 mo
out -don't develop bad habits now -because if you do -your tool may still
work for now, but chances are- if you continue your weight will come back.

The registered dietician in my surgeon's office says NO to ALL of them. She
says NO to the salads because lettuce fills us up with "empty"
calories, and not very many of them at that. In other words, she wants us
to fill our pouches up with chicken, fish, beef, pork, other forms of
quality protein before we even THINK of putting salad in our mouths. And
THEN... instead of salad, she would prefer us to finish with high nutrient
vegetables (like beans, broccoli, spinach) and/or fruits in small quantites
(so you don't dump on the sugar content). The rice and breads are part of
the "NO WHITE CARBS" rule that she is emphatic about. If we MUST
have those things, we need to make sure that the breads are whole grain
(not white bread), and that the rice is either brown rice or wild rice (not
the white stuff), and the same thing with pasta (whole wheat pasta, not
white pasta - and just FYI, "colored" pasta, like the grean, red,
or brown stuff, is just that - colored with the particular vegetable, but
still "white" pasta). As to popcorn, she says an emphatic NO,
PERIOD. NO POPCORN. I eat spicy foods on occasion (like salsa when we go
to a Mexican food restaurant, or curry when we go to an Indian Food
restaurant), and it doesn't bother me. Of course, I'm over 9 months out,
and I didn't start eating that kind of stuff until I was 5 or 6 months out.
I guess it just depends on how your pouch tolerates it. All you can do is
eat a small amount and then wait and see.

RNY are to avoid all bread forever, per my doctor's instructions. Brown
rice is okay in very small quantities. Spicy foods are not well tolerated
in small sized stomachs. I tried once, that was enough for me to learn to
avoid it.

I am out 4 months as well and I do not eat diddly. I just had to have
another upper GI series today. I throw up at least once a week, but lately
three times. Thank God for the protein supplement, or I wouldn't be getting
in my 60 grams of protein

I don't eat bread rice or pasta. I do eat a salad on occasion, espicially
when the ingredients are fresh from my garden, then I eat lots of salads
and veggies, because I know they are just picked and have the max amount of
vitamins. I am a runner and on race day, I will have a well toasted english
muffin with peanut butter on it. But other than that, I avoid bread. I do
eat potatoes on occasion.
