Question:
Got approved for plastic...someone who has done it please tell me how painful???

So i am 18 months out and down 120 pounds and feel great of course! I got approved for plastic surgery to remove this nasty extra skin that I am carrying on my stomach. I have heard people say that the pain and recovery is worse than the bypass. I had some complications with infection on the bypass and even with that I would do it AGAIN!!! For those of you who have done it how bad is the pain? The DR said 10 days out of work is that realistic. (i sit for my jobs) Suggestions on what helped you get thru it and if you would do it again would be appreciated. I am really nervous but young (33) and I want to move forward with the rest of my life and not carry this reminder and excess skin of my constant weight battle!    — elder1104 (posted on April 6, 2011)

I too am getting plastic surgery but im getting a full tummy tuck with diastasis repair and and a belt lipectomy aka a circumfrential body lift. I'm 28. My GB didnt hurt but im quit sure i will be in a lot of pain cause im gettting my boobs done too. if your just getting the panniculectomy it is not as bad because they are just taking the skin. Insurance will only pay for the panniculectomy. I am paying mine out of pocket cause i want it to look like when i was 18 again. anyway good luck and I hope your result is beautiful!!!!

I had plastics Dec 23rd 2010 after losing 140 lbs from GB surgery in January of 2010. I had abdominoplasty and also a breast lift. One thing you've got gong for you is you are only having ONE surgery. I had both at the same time and although i'd do it again, it was hard wearing the binder on your stomach and having your boob incision rubbing against it. As far as the stomach it was undoubtedly easier of the two. Once they cut your stomach you lose all the sensation in your stomach (i.e. can't feel it). Although for a while it feels like you are wearing a corset (and I had to sleep in a recliner for about 5 days because you can't use your stomach muscles and getting in and out of bed was horrible).. I was back to work in 2 weeks ... slow, but there. Just remember to get up and down every once in a while and you will be all set ! Best of luck.. you'll be happy you did it.

Tolerence of pain is different for everyone. I never had plastics but a friend of mine did - stomach, breast reduction, upper arms. The only one she had truble with was the upper arm. I had no pain from WLS but had horrible pain with hernia surgery. Go figure...

Another thing - if you do have pain just keep telling yourself it's only temporary. That helps me.

I am 3 weeks out from lower body lift, and mastopexy without implants. I am still really sore, because mine was different because the surgeon cut out a nasty scar that went from my naval to my breast bone. It was nice because the ugly scar is gone and he cut it out and pulled skin from around as well as up and down. Feel free to look at a couple pics I have on FB. Or PM me for more details. I'm glad you asked this question. On April 18th, I'm having massive hernias repaird. The plastic surgeon will do a panniclectomy(sorry for the spelling) approximately 8 weeks later. I'm glad to read all the answers.

congrats to you on your wt. loss and for getting approved for plastics. how did you manage that? I've been told my fold isn't large enough but I'm down almost 160 lbs. and almost 2 yrs post. I agree with you about moving forward with your life. You go girl, and flaunt it while you do. Good lick and be happy

I had a "body" lift...breast was done first then my tummy then my back...I really suffered with the body lift...The pain was horrible...like having several babies at once...Ask the surgeon if he would do a pain pump...it helped me but I had to have a pain drip...I was changing my bandages and ended up cutting the pain drip...you are in my thoughts and prayers
