Question:
How quickly were you able to return to a desk job?

Just curious how many of you were able to return quickly to a desk job? Barring no surgery complications. How long were you away from your job? Thanks!    — texastreat (posted on January 27, 2010)

I took 2 weeks off, but I was ready to go back after 1 week. I had the Lap RNY, 1 day in hospital, no complications. I was pretty tired about mid day of a full 8 hr shift, but take it easy and rest often and don't over to it because the anesethia will make you tired, it isn't so much the procedure.

I had the open RNY. I felt good enough to go back after 4 weeks off, but due to the food restrictions and learning how to eat, I took the full 6 weeks off. It helped to get the exercise in and really make sure my body was ready! You are going through so many changes! Do not push it!

I was off 2-1/2 weeks after lap RNY. That was the perfect amount of time off.

I had the full RNY - I was off work for 2 weeks. Take it easy for that long if you can.

Four weeks off after lap RNY. Was tired by latter half of work day the next couple of weeks but doable. I feel the biggest hurdle was eating lunch. Still on mushies at that point and only get 30 min break. I found it hard to get my 1/4-1/2 Cup of whatever down in that short time period with all the extra chewing you do during then. I had to 'eat' soups & protein shakes a lot for lunch to avoid stuck food issues. If you can take 6 wks, take them and give yourself plenty of time to recoup from major surgery. Good luck on your surgery, hope all goes smoothly!

I had the lap RNY and was back to my desk job in 2 weeks. I still had to take it easy and not over do it. I got up every hour and walked around.

I had the lap rny and went back after 2 wks, but could have used an extra week or two. I think I set myself back a little. I was feeling fine until I went back and then ended up having pain and then got sick and missed a couple more days. I wish I would have been able to take off 4 weeks. I think I would have been a lot better off! Best of luck to you!

I had lap RNY on Jan 4th. I had plans to return after the first week but needed another week to be able to get myself back to work. When I did return to work I was exhausted. It took me another week of "leaving when I'd had enough" to really feel better. (Note: only issue i've had is very sore largest incision.. sitting for long periods of time can be painful). GOOD LUCK !

I took 2 weeks off as well but whn I cam back I started off the first 3 days only half days which really helped me get my energy back up for a full 8 hours. You may feel well enough to come back sooner but do not make the mistake of fooling yourself and selling your proper recovery short. take it low and slow and you will be glad you did in the end.

Had lap DS. I was off for 4 weeks. When I started back I was on restricted duty for two weeks because my surgeon didn't want me to work overtime (a common occurance in my office) or lift boxes of printer paper until 6 weeks post-op.
