To jump start my metabolism. I combined 30 min. to an hour of daily aerobic exercise with drinking my protein shakes and 68 ounces of water. I Hope this helps!

Hmm, thats a tough one. Its so confusing to know what will work for you because everyone's different. Keep in mind that you have to intake calories in order to burn them. How many carbs are you taking in? Maybe try taking in less and doing as much cardio workouts as you can stomach ???

Less carbs, more exercise-walking, aerobics and so forth. You can probably make it if you start tomorrow. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

Hi there... I started back in October eating the way they want me to eat after surgery. Basically my dietician said 75% protein and 25% carbs, with no more than 8 grams of fat per meal. It's been a challenge, but I've gotten a weight watchers scale and am actually measuring out portions. I eat LOTS of fish because it is extremely high in protein. So are Costco's Turkey Burgers. I am eating every 3 hours or so during the day, but only about 200-250 calories per meal. I went off of all caffienated beverages, and have switched to Celestial Seasonings herbal tea. I'm also using the tracker on the free SparkPeople dot com to record everything I put in my mouth. I've lost 25 pounds, and hope to lose more before surgery is scheduled on or around February 23. Hope this helps! You can also substitute two protein drinks for meals, if you like... I especially like IsoPure Grape Frost that you can get from the vitamin shop, or Oh Yeah protein drinks that you can get from bariatricEating dot com.

I am not familiar with the particular type/brand of shakes you are referring to but I would take a look at the calorie count...esp considering the milk too. I was doing this protein shake when I first started and then happened to look at the nutritional info. Yeah, I was getting the protein but when I added it up with the milk it was almost 400 calories and I don't even remember how many carbs. If you are drinking 6 then you definitely want to make sure you aren't overdoing it on carbs and calories.

your body could be in starvation mode. If you don't comsume enough calories, you won't lose anything. I learned this after surgery...had to go from one ounce of food to two. It could be that simple. Talk with your nutritionist. They are there to help. Good luck to you! hugs, Kim

I did the American Heart Association 3 day diet and lost 8 1/2 pounds. Here is the link: http://www.cyber-shack.net/Diets/3DayAHADiet.htm I know it sounds unbelievable but it worked for me. Had to adhere to it strictly though. I MADE myself eat the tuna. It worked to get me motivated enough with the weight loss to do the pre-op diet without cheating!

No sugar added carnation instant breakfast!OMIGOD! I just looked at the nutrition facts and to me...This is NOT the way I would ever diet with or without WLS! Let me tell you about your NSA CIB...If you drink 6 of these day with 8 oz of skim milk...For only 840 calories, you are getting 30 g's of cholesterol,3 g fat, 144g carbs, 114g SUGARS (YES, this is the NSA version), 78 protein and 24 fiber...and a whole crap load of extra vitamins! (No, over doing vitamins is not good, as all vitamins are NOT friendly) You would be better off eating lean protein meals at 300-350 cals a day with NO SUGAR, and low carbs for quick weight loss. You could eat less fat sugar and carbs with a nice lean 4-6 ounce chicken breast and a large serving of veggies and a small fruit for MUCH better nutrition and diet. That's my non- medical, non-licensed opinion...That stuff is crap...and for NSA and all that milk that's a LOT of sugar and carbs for only 840 calories! And the vitamins for a regular operating stomach is way over the top! Just my opinion...

I agree w/the others, more protein & exercise. When you don't eat enough, your body will hold on to the fat thinking your starving it.....it's a God given defense mechanism to protect the body in case of a castastrophe. Try to walk 30-40 minutes a day until countdown. My surgery is 2/14, I've already lost 14lbs but need to loose 6 more. This past week, I did exactly what I've been doing all along without cheating & lost nothing so off to the gym I will go come Monday. Hang in there & start moving so burn off some fat. You'll be fine. God bless.

The Protien shakes (100% Whey Protein from GNC) have about 120cals and mixed with 8oz skim milk 80 extra. I was instructed to only take 2-3 shakes a day with unlimited other no calories liquids 1 week pre-op. I wasn't hungry at all. And had a good wt loss. I do agree that at least 20-30 minutes of intentional excercise is a nice addition and will get you in the habit for post-op sucess.
