Question:
Can I start on soft foods?

I am 8 days post-op (lap roux en y). I see my dr on day 12. I am feeling great with alot of energy. Today, I have noticed that I am feeling hungrier than usual and am sick of mashed potatoes, soup, and jello. Do you think I could start fixing something from the soft diet menu? Eggs? noodles? I am so bored!!!! Thank You!!!    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 31, 2000)

I started on day #5 on pureed lasagna, fettucine alfredo, cheddar potatoes, stuffed peppers, rice a roni. The key is to puree it in a processor and only eat two medicine cups worth, that's two ounces. Why not eat anything as long as its consistency is that of prescribed foods? If it looks and feels like mashed potatoes it will be ok. Just pass it by your Dr. first. The first 2 months after this surgery is like boot camp and then you'll see everything gets really normal again. Just puree puree puree. You'll be glad you did and it will prevent vomiting spells. Your stomach must heal so treat it kindly.

Do as your physican says! Each procedure and each patient are different. A few more days is not much in the long line of days ahead. Give yourself enough time to heal. Give yourself the best start that you can! Jello it is!!
