Double check with your Drs office, but I got mine like 2 hr pre op. They gave me a chux for under my tush and when I came out of recovery my first walk took me to the restroom to make myself comfy with the supplies I brought from home. I brought my own becuase the hospital supplies tend to be what they are. They are used to the body being sent into the altered state of being.. so to speak and often if you do not have your period when your go in-- you begin it there.

Sure, they will just ask you to put a pad on instead of having a tampon in most likely. It is a very common thing actually. The stress of the surgery can actually cause women to start their period during surgery and wake with it in surprise as it is early. Happens all the time. I suggest bringing your own feminine products as theirs are blek! And, remember, we are super fertile after surgery with our weight loss and our hormones raging so be extra carefull. Good luck, Dawn

I came out of surgery with my period. It is very common because of the stress on your body...Surgeons expect that...The pads they had at the hospital were...well indescribably HUMOUNGUSwith these long tials front and back...It would have felt something like sticking a paperback novel in my panties! No thanks! (I used those under my binder for my open RNY so my teeshirts/binder wouldn't get all dirty from the scar line! LOL I was glad I my own supplies from home for myself because my Nut warned us ladies! The first time someone asked this question I had almost forgotten I had mine in the hospital, but I kept a journal and it really was uneventful having it while there that I even forgot til I read it myself.

I got mine in the hospital. They didn't care. I didn't enjoy it too much but there were no problems.

my original surgery for RNY was for this coming August 11th, but looking at the calendar, I chose to change mine to Aug. 20th. They can still do the surgery, but i just personally would rather wait is all....I was thinking about the catheter, they said I would have it til the day after surgery, and was thinking about that. Still, I hate that time of the month of course who doesn't! But I didn't want PMS, or a period during surgery. But, that said they can still do the procedure.
