Question:
I would like to know how long are most on clear liquid after the Lap Band Surgery

I would like to know how long I am going to be on the clear lequid diet, then who long on the puree/mashed foods and what atfer that? How long will it be before I go on solid foods? Thanks... waiting for surgery    — Dorothy H. (posted on June 2, 2003)

I didn't have the lap band, but I took nutrition classes with people who planned to have it. My surgeon expected the lap banders to follow the same diet as those of us having RNY. As far as the time limit at different stages of the post op diet, that differs from surgeon to surgeon.

You'll find that each doctor has different post-op instructions. My doctor's instructions were liquids for 2 weeks, but the list he gave me included things such as applesauce, thin cream of wheat, blended soups, etc. Then I moved on to mushy foods for 2 weeks, which included cooked meats and vegetables, as long as they were very soft. Have you looked at the lap band message board at www.spotlighthealth.com? Click "Obesity" on the main page, then "Support Groups" and you'll find the lap band board.

It is truly amazing the differences between doctors. I was on liquids the 2 days in the hospital and then sent home on pureed foods. Followed that for 7-10 days then onto to soft foods. Good luck!
