monday I will be 4 weeks post-op, I had to have lunch out and i got grilled chicken

and added Honey Mustard Dressing (regular). What are the ramifications of eating this?    — angelswings711 (posted on July 29, 2006)

Well, I guess that can only be answered by you. If you feel fine, then you are probably going to be fine. This is the point where you start to learn what you can and can't handle. As long as you aren't setting out to break all the rules your surgeon gave you, I would say this is just normal experimentation. Some people will dump on fat and sugar, so the dressing could be a problem. Some people get chicken stuck. Some don't ever have a problem. Just take it slow and easy with new foods and try not to push it too much!

Same as above. Also, If you have to go out to a restaurant, which at two years post op I not too fond of, in the early stages of WLS I would order soup and have them bring it when the others get their meals. If I'm with my kids or husband, I usually eat off their plates, if they let me : ). Ordering off the appitizer menu sometimes is an option if they have something that is not too high in fat.

Well, sounds like a tasty treat. If you didn't feel any after effect, I guess you are okay. As a previous post stated, only you can answer that one, but sounds like a good lunch. Besides, mustard doesn't have any calories and I'm not sure about honey mustard --it can't be that many so don't worry about it --eat and enjoy.

The above are correct- the other thing I have done is tell the server I have had stomach surgery and could I order from the childrens menu. I am 3 mo out and try to stick to grilled chicken and fish. No salads or raw veggies or cooked corn (my RD told me to stay away from them until I am 6 mo out) I usually have just 1-2 oz chicken/fish either some green veggies cooked or a little potato. No sauce. If I eat too rich or too fast I have horrible cramps (guess that is my dumping syndrome).

As long as you are on regular foods you will digest it just fine. Just don't over eat! Also explain to your wait staff that you are only a few weeks out from WLS and ask to see if you can get a 1/2 order or order off the kids menu. A lot of restaurants will allow that. Also clarify the price of the meal BEFORE you order it and don't be afraid to ask for 1/2 price for 1/2 portion. Some restaurants will charge an adult price for a kids meal, unfortunately. When I was just over a week out and on soft puree, my husband and I went out and I got a kids Turkey with mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. The turkey was soft and I just made sure that I mashed it on my plate and chewed like crasy and had NO side effects from it. It is all going to be how your body handles it though. You aren't going to overstretch your pouch or anything though as long as you listen to your body.

I love going out to eat, I hate cooking even though I'm a good cook. There are a lot of great things to order, soup is good. I've had lap band, though, so it's not so much of a dilema for me. I order a reg. portion (chiken or fish), ask for a box, eat a small amount and have food to take home. I got 4 meals out of our last dinner date out! When you think of it that way, that's a very cheap way to go even when paying the adult price. There are a lot of ways to handle this and a lot of great healthy things to order at many restaurants. Buffets are no longer an option for me,though, they are a total waste of money and far too tempting.

I agree with the above about what your body is accepting...IF you didn't feel any cramping or nausea, then it sounds like it was chewed well and went down ok.... I made my first mistake sucking on a mango pit! It caused painful chest pains, nausea, and eventually vomiting it all up before I felt better! This surgery definitely is our built-in will power like my surgeon warned us! :O) Keep Enjoying!

How did you feel after you eat the dresing. For me I can't eat anything with honey. It makes me so sick. I am 8 months and I still can't eat any sauce with honey. Your body will let you know if you can or can't. Good luck.
