Question:
what Vitamins, and food

I am hoping to have a LAP BAND surgery in a few motnhs. 1) Can anyone tell me exactly what vitamins and/or minerals to take, and does one have to crush tablets or how does one take them 2)Basically what food is allowed the first month/the second month/third month and after that? 3) If one has to drink many glasses of water to prevent a kidney stone from growing how does one do this with a lap band? Thank you so much!!    — dorisdenton (posted on February 21, 2006)

There are several vitamins to take. You take a chewable multivitamin with iron that is sugarfree. Flintstones Vitamins makes one that is sugar free. You also take chewable calcium like caltrate. You also need b12 and you can get a sublingual once a week tablet from Walmart. The water is easy. Start now carrying a bottle of water with you, just like your purse or wallet you carry it everywhere. That way you are always sipping on something. I hate plan water so I drink crystal light or a vitamin water and I carry that where ever I go. Or I try to. Good luck

You should really consider asking this question on the lapband board. I'm sure they could be more helpful. You seem to be confusing bypass issues with lapband issues. The answer above is more for gastric bypass than for lap banders. You do not have the same absorption issues with the lap band, so you don't need to worry about not absorbing nutrients from your food (not that you don't need to take vitamins!) Lap band does not prevent you from taking in quantities of water. your sipping may be slower, but you can intake all the liquids you want.need. Additionally, every surgeons program is different so it would be best to ask your surgeon what their post op diet looks like. Good luck to you.

Hi Doris, you need to take a chewable multivitamin and a calcium supplement. There are several choices available, centrum, bariatric advantage and flinstones. Every surgeon has their own list of when to eat what. Basically you will be on liquids for at least the first 4-6 weeks following surgery. Follow your surgeons routine. You should try to drink 64 oz. of fluids daily. You sip all day to get your fluids in. Plus there are fluids in the food you eat. I hope this helps.

I would recommend sending an email to [email protected] and joining their group. Or enter gastric banding in your search or bandsters and there will be sites to click on. there is a wealth of info there.
