Question:
medic alert bracelet

hello! well i have been given a date for my open rny of dec 1st and am making preparations. i was told by dietician to look into getting a medical alert bracelet to put rny on it. so i checked out different bracelets and they seem to all cost around $80.00 for a nice one and 1 didn't want to waste my engraving space. so, what else should i put besides that. most like if i have a medical emergency they'll be able to find who i am and my numbers, etc from my wallet and cell phone. so, what else should i put on it? your help is greatly appreciated! thanks!    — andrea E. Hello Andrea, looks like we are on the same page. My surgery date is October 27th so I too have been trying to get everything in order. I found a site called Lauren's Hope Medical ID Bracelets @ WWW.LaurensHope.Com or 1-800-360-8680 who has some really beautiful bracelets and they suggest: John Doe Gastric Bypass 10/27 NO NG Tube/NSAIDS 816-555-5555 DR. You should check out their site. Hope this helps. Congratulations & Good Luck! Debbie

Your cell phone number? Why would a doc trying to help you want your cell phone number when he has you! LOL (just teasing) I would think that putting your name, the type of surgery and your Dr's name and number at the hospital where you had your surgery might be more fitting...and if you have any other med problems and if you are a donor that might be nice to put too

I just bought mine a cpl of mths ago (necklace w/ long chain) it was less then $30 from MediAlert. ON one side it states that i have the adjustable lapband, and the other side has my surgeon name, phone, seriel number of band. The stainless steel medalion is about the size of a quarter and the chain is long enough that it lays between my breast. I don't like wearing anything on my wrist so i went w/ the necklace.

I know you can get them cheaper, through eBay (some will engrave as part of the cost) or even at your pharmacy (you'd have to then have to send it away for engraving). I want to get mine also. I've heard that you are to put in it: Gastric Bypass, (date of surgery), No NG or NSAIDS. I'm not sure what an NG is, but I guess the medical people will know. I know that no tubes can go down your throat (rupturing your pouch). so, I still have more reserch to do myself on it.

An NG or NGT is a nasalgastric tube. You wouldnt want your little pouch perferated.

you know i have been in love with the watch bands that cracker barrel sells. however i don't wear a watch. but a light came on and i realized that i could have the band and get a med alert piece to put on it and wear it on the bottom of my wrist. under ten bucks.
