Question:
Years after gastric bypass.

I am 7 years almost eight years out, I have iron problems I get Venorfer treatments about every 5 months. I would really like to have the skin removed from under my tummy. I have so much scare tissue now but I'm scared of the iron drop if I do it. Has anyone had it done with iron problems and under what requirements does united health care pay for skin removal.    — ANNAJEAN (posted on January 5, 2011)

I have pernicious anemia (for the last 10 years) so I have regular iron infusions. I get it once or twice a year. I had my gastric bypass surgery in May and had in infusion a few weeks afterwards as my levels really dropped. I had another one in December. So just get checked after your surgery. It did not affect my recovery rate from what I can tell but I monitor it monthly too. As for getting UHC to pay for a tummy tuck - I've not heard of anyone getting it approved without extensive documentation of problems such as back pain etc. Hopefully someone on OH will have some good answers tho!
