Question:
Can you please recommend a good multi-vitamin?

I'm having RnY in 14 days. I wanted to buy my vitamins ahead of time. My dr. told me to buy Flinstones with Iron chewables. Can anyone recommend a good multi-vitamin that is chewable or liquid that I can purchase? Thanks so much. Marcia    — marcia5000 (posted on May 26, 2009)

Instead of taking several different vitamins that are required, my surgeon recommended Optisource multi's. They have all the vitamins in one. Taken 4 times a day and then a calcium supp. I am currently taking the optisource 4 times daily and a liquid calcium magnesium which contains 1200 mg of calcium for only 1 Tablespoon daily. That can be purchased at GNC store or online, and the optisource can be purchased at wallgreens or at bariatric advantage.com. Neither are bad tasting, so it's easy to get them down. GL 2U, hope this helps :)

sorry, I forgot to mention that the calcium I take, is the calcium citrate recommended, not the carbonate.

Your best vitamins are designed specifically for bariatric patients.... like Bariatric Advantage, or Celebrate Multivitamins. You can go to bariatriceating.com, and look at their vitamin and supplements pages. I've tried two other brands - one is a liquid vitamin from Max Muscle, but it has too many carbs for my liking...and another, called Fusion, requires that you take 4 tablets a day - which was just too hard for me to do. Bariatric Advantage sent me some samples, and I will be buying my next supply of vitamins from them. They are cheaper than the other two, by far, even though you have to order them from online.

I use the Viactiv multivitamin chews. They are chocolate flavored and have the same amount of vitamins and minerals as the Flintstones. I chew 2 of them before I go to bed at night, and I take Iron with them. I couldn't stand the taste and grit of the Flintstones vitamins, and my doctor said the Viactiv are just fine.

I took the Flinestones chewable vitamins (they taste good to me) right after surgery. Once I was able to swallow vitamins I bought Nature Made Daily Vitamin. They work the best for me. At support group - they always say "the best (vitamin, protein drink, etc.) is the one you will (take, eat, swallow). Good Luck with your surgery. I had mine 2/15/07 and would do again in a heartbeat. I have lost 145lbs am a size 4/6 and have energy to burn. I have a brand new lease on life. It's amazing. Again, good luck.
