I had this happen about 3 weeks after surgery. Doctor recommended Milk of Magnesia, and then if that didnt work he said to either get a suppository or enema. Hope that helps

Your question probably appears 4-5 times per week. Drink more fluids, and begin a daily regimine of stool softeners. Colace or another brand, or their generic equivalent will work fine. I take 2 at bed time and one in the morning. Try one at night, see how it works. Adjust dosage as necessary. I wouldn't take more the 3 or 4 daily maximum.

I had it too, but I took stool softeners and Omega 3, which I take omega 3 capsules each day now and stay very regular. Make sure you get 100 oz of water each day. That makes a big difference. Don't count the liquids in other foods, just water by its self

A lot of times the pain meds that you were given after surgery can constipate you. This too will pass...no pun intended.

I am also a week and 2 days out but the doctor said that would happen. They just told me to take some milk of magnesia. But I had yogurt for dinner and that worked for me.

Make sure you discuss this w/ your dr. I take metamucill capsules everyday. Sometimes I have to take a stool softner or correctol. Also, remember you are eating less so you will have bowel movements less often also. With me it was like every 4 days. Water is very important, and please it is in your best interest to chew, chew, chew when you start on solids. I have to have a second surgery because i overate once and did not chew well enough. Milk of Magnesia is the magic answer here! I didn't realize that was why I was still in pain until 5 weeks after my surgery. Once I took this and cleaned everything out, the pain was gone. Good luck to you!

Are you sure you're constipated? Are you passing small, hard, dry stool that requires a lot of straining? I'm guessing that you probably did some kind of clean out before surgery... to empty EVERYTHING out... ....now you are probably eating liquids or soft/mushy food in very small amounts.... You gotta eat to poop. Now that you've had surgery and are eating much less, you're going to poop much less. Unless you are uncomfortable, I'd suggest avoiding laxatives and enemas... stool softners can be helpful and don't cause the cramping that traditional laxatives can cause. Your best bet, tho, would be to call your doctor, tell him whats going on, and see if he thinks this is a) constipation and b) needs treating. Best wishes.
