Question:
Has anyone regretted having Lap-Band? What it harder than you expexted?

Since food is emotionally our "friend"; our "comfort", did you crave or miss your old favorites? My first time asking a questions, thanks. Dee    — llamb (posted on April 23, 2007)

what i miss sometimes is having abig fully dressed cheeseburger and i miss subway sometimes but other then that i am pretty happy. you get used to it and you have to learn to not emotionally eat. which is what i always did.

I do not regret my lap-band. I notice now more than ever that I eat when I am bored. I try to make sure I drink when I am in the craving/bored eating. I just had another fill, and I am finally noticing some real restriction. I have to say I do not think I will ever regret my decision, as I am learning a whole new way of eating; I am losing weight that will NEVER come back. Good Luck in your journey!

Hi LaVonda.. congrats on your surgery... I didn't have the lapband as I knew I would need that help that the RNY provides in making you sick if you eat too much sugar, etc. Kinda like an alcoholic taking anabuse... makes them sick if they drink any type of alcohol. But, what I certainly did notice is that I definitely went through a grieving period. It was like losing a friend. We have all used food as a way to deal with feelings ... and well, when you can't turn to that "friend" any longer, you realize that it is time to take ownership of the decision that you made. You can still invite the friend over, but there are certainly limitations on the friendship as without the limitations, the cost of the friendship is too high.. good luck... if you are really having a problem.. I would recommend some counseling or therapy. It all depends upon how strong the relationship with food was. I had in depth counseling prior to my surgery. And despite all of the research that I did... extensive to say the least.... I still was not prepared for how integrated food was in my life as a whole. I don't think that anything can prepare you for that.. you can say I know that before having the surgery, but it isn't until you have to deal with wanting to have that hamburger, cheesecake, bread, etc (whatever the 'drug' of choice was) do you realize what a big decision it was that you made.... good luck to you...

I miss cheeseburgers, burritos, and subways sandwiches too but, you definately realize that food was a huge comfort. I still get sick and throw up from eatting too much, but-i think more about what i eat and what will happen if i eat too much. I don't regret it at all, and I had a hard time in surgery and after with complications. you only live once, make it the best

No regrets. I do miss some of my old favorites, but I utilize fitday.com, and if I want a little of the old stuff, I just make room for a tad of it in my plan that day. I try not to make a habit of it, though, because contrary to what another poster said earlier, weight lost is not necessarily lost forever, regardless of what surgery you had. I have had to come to grips with the fact that I will always struggle with my weight on all fronts .. exercising, monitoring my food intake and dealing with cravings. But it is worth it every day! You will figure out what works best for you by trial and error. Good luck to you.
