Question:
Hair Loss

I am at 6 months post and I am having hair loss for a while. I was told to take with biotin 2500 mcg a day and didn't see any difference. A hair supplement called Nourkrin that sold from Vitamin World, I am wondering if it will helps but so expensive. Is there anything for my hair at budget price?    — Nancy_Jo (posted on April 23, 2007)

Every shampoo that I tried only make my hair more brittle. I just tried to get 100+ grams of protein per day and stay hydrated. Along with the Biotin, you should see some turnaround in the next 2 months. Hang in there!

I know taking Vitamin E on a daily basis will help with hair loss. My friend has been taking it and she is doing great with it.

I have had success with a Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner by Eden Products. I purchased it online.

Everyone is different in regards to products to use.. you will have to keep trying. Biotin is one of the B-vitamins that you should be using not just to help keep your hair, but it is essential in helping keep your skin and nails good too. The hair loss can be caused from several things... it can be a reaction to the anesthesia (people who have other types of surgeries can have hair loss too), not enough vitamins or protein can cause it. I take the high dose Biotin daily, as it is a water soluable vitamin, whatever you don't use, you will excrete through your urine. Just keep in mind that the hair loss usually starts about 4-6 months after surgery. So, give it time to work.. you should see a slowdown of the hair loss within the next couple of months if you take the biotin faithfully. I had a lot of hair loss too (thank goodness that I started out with alot... LOL) But it is starting to come back in and the hairloss is slowing down.. I am 6 1/2 mos out. hope this helps...

One thing I was told to use was Nioxin shampoo. If you have Trade secret stores or go online and you can find it. It is a little spendy... But worth the help it gives.

Hey Nancy, as someone else mentioned hair loss can happen for many reasons. Basically, if you are going to lose then you can't stop it...but you can minimize it. The biotin has been working for me but I have heard others recomend flax seed. You can mix it in yogurt or granola and it can be bought at CVS and Wal*Mart. As always talk to your doc before trying anything new.
