Question:
am I a slow loser

I am 11 months out and have only lost 80-83 pds. I eat fruits like graps watermelon. I think I should have lost at leat 100 pds by my year date. A girl at church said that the bigger you are before wls the faster you lose and will loss more than a person weighing not as much. I was 291 know I am 210 she was 550 plus? and can fit a 14 but the loos skin is in the way . she is about 3-4 years out. Help me out yaw do I still have a chance to loos the weight even after my year is up?    — tesababe (posted on October 22, 2007)

Did you have RNY or lapband? If you had lapband, the weight loss is much slower. If you had RNY you probably should have lost more at 11 months. My doctor says approx. 12 lbs a month but you aren't doing that badly. Most people malabsorb calories for 18 months and then you stop losing easily. Are you exercising? Exercise will help you lose faster. Record your food intake on fitday.com and speak with your nutritionist to make sure you are doing everything you should...perhaps you are having too much fruit and not enough protein.

I am 6 1/2 months out & have lost about 72 lbs. For the last 3 weeks I've only lost about 5 lbs. You hit a plateau. But I started doing more protein shakes & milk with carnation instant breakfast ( sugerfree ) & broth. Then, eat a lein cuisine or smartones for supper. To reboot your system. I barely exercise because I need A left hip replacement, but lifting weights & exercise with a rubber rope help. Good luck!!!

Hello I had the surgery on June 21 of this year and I have lost alot of weight. The weight has been coming off of me fast. I am told that it might slow down after a while.. I always say to myself that there is no rush it will come of if u eat right and exercise. That is a big plus. I never exercised so that is why I weighed as much as u did. But now i am doing great and it is coming off so fast... Well good luck with the wls...

How wonderful that you have lost what you have. if your are like me, you couldnt do it by yourself and would gain it back without this surgery. you are doing fine and just have to wait (weight) :) it out !! It will happen for you too. shalmar

Everyone loses at their own rate. I would watch the fruits as they are full of sugar. Better than a cookie of course, but have you ever tried to clean watermelon juice off the counter or the floor---very sticky---that is the sugar. Check with your surgeon or nutritionist. Julia

I am 7 years post op from RNY my suggestion is get more protein and stay off the carbs. Fruits are good for you but not a load of them. They are also loaded with carbs.

I weighed 262 and its been 1 1/2 yrs since my surgery. I have lost 107 lbs and feel so fortunate. I'm thinking at a year I was down about 80 lbs or maybe 90. My dr said I had lost about 15 lbs since my last appt in August. I expect to lose about 20 more lbs but stay off the scales. I am thrilled to wear a size 10 or 12, if it has an elastic waistband. I only weigh maybe once a month.
