Question:
Four days out of surgery, and all I can stand to eat are popsicles.

Broth makes me feel ill. Is this normal? What are the best tasting protein shakes out there? Thank you! :)    — a_swoose (posted on July 16, 2006)

I was like this too for a long time. As long as you get in fluids and make attempts at it - it should be okay. Talk to your dietician about it and see what they say about it. Give yourself time to heal.

Try Unjury protein, search for their website, can only buy it online, but they give you free samples, I use the vanilla and chocolate flavors mixed in milk, taste great, 20 grams of protein plus more with the milk. Take care.

Well I'm pretty much the opposite of you..lol. I can't even stand to look at a popsicle. What I decided to do was either sip on Gatorade, Crystal light, Minute Maid Light, or Flavored water. Another thing you can do is to take your flavored water and put it in an ice tray, that way you have some flavored ice cubes to suck on. As far as protein, I was told to use the kind of powder with whey in it(not soy). I got it from an organic food store. I would normally mix it with some strawberry boost and sip on it. Hope this info helps :)

Have you tried the sugar free Jello that's what I had to eat a lot of post-op and for a week after surgury. I didn't start whey products until my first f/u appointment at 1 week. Then I was advanced from clear liquids to a more solid diet that included diet puddings. Your taste buds will be major funky for a while. I have just started getting the ability to eat a more regular type foods . It does get better so hang in there. It's well worth the discomfort and missing out on things for a while.

That is very normal. Your digestive system has jhust been replumbed and it is a major shock to your system! I could eat very little for months afterwards - not nearly as much as they wanted me to ingest! Even water made me ill. This, too, shall pass.

tolerable to me Check out the Nector sight online. They have many flavors including lemonade, tea, punch etc etc. They have been the best for me. Low in fat, calories, sugars and not too awfully expensive either. Good luck Tressia

Just worry about hydrating yourself right now. Protein can come later. Its not going to kill you if you miss a couple of weeks without protein. I went two months without drinking protein shakes. They were just too sweat for me. I tried to get my protein in other ways like eating scrambled eggs, or cottage cheese, even sugar free rice pudding has protein in it. 4 days out, focus on hydration.

I don't see a problem, personally. We're on clear liquids for FOUR weeks, but are allowed to start protein & vites at 7 days. I'm 12 yrs now, but I have been using ProScore 100 for 10 yrs, Pure Whey Stack for 4 and sometimes IDS cinnamon-vanilla with my choco Stack. I LIKE my proteins, they all mix with a reasonably small amount of water. I take 6 or more drinks (30g each) per day, so they're no big deal. And yes, I eat food. lol
