Question:
My doctor fussed at me yesterday!!

He says that I have lost 83% of my excess in 6 months and was way ahead of schedule. He told me to EAT! I do eat, in fact I was wondering if I was eating too much (1000 cals) because I only lost 6 lbs. last month. I thought I was a slow loser, I have lost 76 lbs. I realize that I started as a lightweight but have seen many who are also LW that lose much faster than I. I told him that I wanted to lose about 35 more and he really got on to me. Said not to be fixated on the numbers, that I am healthy now. My BMI is still 27, I would think that I would be the healthiest at a BMI 22. I don't feel that I am fixated on the numbers, I just have a decent goal. I don't want to look unhealthy, but I feel that 135 would be a great weight for me at 5'5.5". He said that if this trend continues, that when I see him for my 9 month check, he might have me cut back on my exercise (and I'm no excersise fanatic). What do you guys think?    — Cheri M. I say go for your goal! If you're losing weight relatively easily and it's possible for you to get to your goal, I don't understand what your doctor is worried about. Maybe shoot for a BMI of 24 or 25, the high end of normal? I had surgery a week ago, and I just hope I have the same problem you do!

Hi Cheri & Congrats on that terrific weight-loss ~ you are doing awesome! I think that you should do what YOU feel is comfortable. You know your body better than any Doc. If you feel good and look good then go for the 135lb goal. Best wishes! ~ Debbie P.S. You are very inspiring to me!

Cheri, I was way ahead of my schedule too (76% at 6 mo.), although I felt I was a slow looser compared to so many here with AMOS. I was considered a 'light weight'. My doc was thrilled with my loss, VERY thrilled! I think we all have our own rates & I think you have done great :) I have started slowing down, only lost 4 pounds this month, still have 10ish to go. I have been approved for a hernia repair with a TT and have been told that I will loose 10-15 with the TT. I don't want to loose anymore if that holds true. A BMI of 22 IS a healthy goal, I would worry if it falls below that, mine is 25 right now. You have done great!

Hey, Im jealous! I didnt lose weight that fast. But good for you. Sometimes I think the doctors get a little nervous because they dont want you to have nutritional problems. He might be thinking that your window of losing will be open for quite a while and doesnt want you to get too thin, that's almost as dangerous as being really heavy. I say keep up the good work, and if you are losing weight too fast be sure to make sure you get all of your nutrients in. Best of luck to you!!

I lost pretty fast... I am 5'8" and started at 314 and got to 150 in 8.5 months. My docs goal for me was 165... Mine was the 150... However, I am now 17 months post, 10 weeks post from abdominoplasty and I weigh 130# with a BMI of 19. I did have to go on a medication to help me maintain.. its a powdered enzyme that I mix with a little applejuice... I prefer being on the thin side. Im healthy, take my vitamins and exercise.... I eat well... often at 2000 calories a day. I just make good choices and eat lotsa protein based foods and still monitor my carbs... I will not let myself gain any weight so in that way I am obsessed but Im not aneorexic nor doI have any other type of eating disorder.... I am just comfortable being thin. Good luck to you!!!

I am almost 7 months out and I have lost 95 pounds. I am 5'6" and started out weighing 265. I need to lose down to 145 so I still have 25 pounds to go. I am only losing 4 or 5 a month now so it could take me another 6 months to get it off. Almost everyone I talk to really slows down at 6 months. I say the more you have off at that point the better! It does get a little more difficult to lose after that point.

At 6 months I had lost 75% of my excess weight. My doctor was thrilled with my results. I still want to lose another 15 pounds and then have tt and liposuction to remove the remaining 15. It sounds like your doing great. I would just keep doing what your doing!!

With all due respect, Cheri and not to minimize your question or anything but I HAVE to say...I WANT THIS PROBLEM !! :) I can only dream that one day someone would say "your losing weight too quickly" or "your too skinny" - haha - I don't mean to make light of things but I'm only 5-weeks out today and sometimes I feel like I'm going to be the ONLY person in the entire universe that this surgery doesn't work for....I'm proud of you, Cheri - it's a good problem / issue to have. :)
