I can, I drink a cup a day and have no problems. I took awhile to work up to it just in case and sometimes I have half-caf just so I don't get to much caffene. Hope that helps.

I drink it every day. I had to switch to SF syrups and non fat milk, but the Venti Skinny Vanilla latte is 18g of protein so I don't worry too much. If I had been required to quit smoking, give up sugar, give up snacking and give up coffee at the same time I would either be in a nut house or jail; either way not a good thing for me. BUT... make sure you drink enough non caffeine fluids to make up for the fact that caffeine can increase your risk of dehydration.

Maybe this is an odd question, but why would you want to if you've already stopped? Consider this your chance to quit another bad habit. That's what I did. I haven't regreted it and don't miss it. And I have more energy.

My dietitian told me that I could have up to 16 oz of the real stuff per day once I am able to drink my 64 oz of water and I have to drink it at least 1 hour after vitamins. Just remember caffeine blocks some absorbsion of certain vitamins so don't over do it.

I can answer that question... I've been 100% caffeine free for about 2 months now, (pre-op and post-op) and I even DREAM about drinking coffee. I was an avid coffee drinker, in the morning, in the midday, sometimes even at night! Lattes, 'ccinos, venti, grande, turbo, large, xlarge, box o' joe, frappa', coolata, sspresso, I didn't care where it came from, long as I was drinking it! It used to be a running joke in the office if the coffee pot was empty, a select few of us would just drag our legs in there like zombies watching the coffee perculate. I miss coffee as much now as I did when I first stopped drinking it. I actually broke down and had some today, I poured my normal size coffee mug (probably a double cup) full of it, made it to my liking (and had to add extra equal.. I guess since I'm not used to it anymore it tastes stronger!) but the good thing was, I drank less than 1/4 of my regular mug and was satisfied. Now it's cold and I don't even want anymore! I read this post and started laughing, took a sip and was like YOW COLD! And haven't had the urge for another sip since. I think I just needed that tiny little bit to ease the urge (plus I was doing it experimentally since I hadn't had a BM since my pre-op liquid diet.. coffee always helped before so I figured I would try.. and it did!) Anyways.. I was told no coffee EVER again by the surgeon.. but then the nutritionist said, "Hey look- let's be realistic here.. if you want coffee, have it- just don't have 4 cups anymore, have 1 cup and stop there." But I believe she said to wait 6 months at least before I tried. I would definitely try decaf to start back up or half-caf. I'm going to ask her on Thursday when I go in and see just how much longer I need to wait :) They also suggested tea over coffee.. so maybe you can become a tea drinker!

You can have coffee after the first month. I haven't gone back to it yet--switched to herbal tea. This is the most "natural" I have ever been in my life! No caffeine, no sugar, no alcohol! Wow! The real me--what a concept!

You can definitely drink "real" coffee again - just in moderation. You also want to be sure to stay away from the sugary syrups as well as sugar. I still have trouble - even 7 months after surgery - giving up my cream, but I've adjusted to splenda instead of sugar, and my perpetual, neverending cup of coffee is now down to one or two cups a day without any problems and both my doctor and my nutritionist are VERY happy! I would just be sure to wait until a month or two after surgery, and start with 1/2 real, 1/2 decaf to start! Good luck! :)

The answer is yes and no. Some people can and it's no problem, others cannot. I don't drink it regularly anymore because its dehydrating. I was a pot-a-day drinker in my old life. I find decaf coffee to be just as satisfying.

About 2 mos. after surgery I started back to my 2 cups every morning routine. I am now 18 mos. out and have had no problems with it at all. Seems to me the key to nearly everything after surgery is --moderation. Good Luck--enjoy your new emerging self. Christine

I love coffee!! Prior to surgery I thought that was going to be the hardest thing for me to do....give up my caffeine. 12/21/08 was the last day I had "real coffee". After surgery, I still love coffee, but just drink it decaf. Caffeine does many things to your body, why would I want to go back to that when I'm doing my best to change many long years of habit. You'll do just fine without it.
