Hi Kionna, WOW and Congrats on your surgery! Sounds like you are going thru a frustrating time. Are you talking to your doctors about this? Also contact your other healthcare professionals. You are only 8 weeks post op. That is very early; reach out to others and find a good support group. This website has an excellent source to help you in this journey. You may talk to me. I am vinnigirl on this website. Don't give up and best of luck! Vinni, retired RN

I had lap band 4-16-08 and I am down 65 pounds and lots of inches but the first 6-8 weeks, I lost only 10 pounds and the surgeon told me that my stomach was healing and it would take 3-5 fills to get the band adjusted right. I didn't notice the weight loss as much as I noticed my clothes fitting loose. You can't just judge weight loss just by the scales. I walk a lot and I stick to the diet and I do water aerobics 4-5 times a week. I have cheated on my diet and my surgeon told me how to cheat, so it wouldn't ruin my whole diet. Don't be too hard on yourself. There are things I have learned that sometimes the scales lie. I had to learn what nsv mean, these are Non Scale Victories, etc...moving the car seat up, loose rings, loose clothes, shoes are too big, not have to wear a seat extender when I flew to Lubbock Texas. These are things I have learned to appreciate and I enjoy every minute of them. Good Luck! Diane

I had lap band surgery on 6-6-08. I have not been losing much weight either. I have an additional problem I have Hashimoto Disease. It is an auto immune disease that attacks the thyroid and no matter how much I exercise, nothing comes off. I am going into the Dr. for another fill next Monday and if I still haven't loss any weight, they will look at the thyroid problem. Good luck on your weight loss. I hope they have good news for me. I would love to have a 65 lb weight loss like a lot of the wls people have. Susan G.

I am in the same boat. I haven't lost anything if you count going up 5lbs. I am not much help in making you successful but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I have had 2 fills and have a hard time eating meat but no weightloss. I was walking 2 miles a day for over a month. I have gotten discouraged and don't exercise much. I will get a fill tomorrow and I hope it helps out. I started at 237lbs and I am down to 224lbs. I had gotten down to 221lbs but I am back up again. Hang in there and I hope it turns around for you. Congratulations on your surgery! First and foremost, I dont know about you but I am used to being a failure and not believing in myself or anything I do. It is truely a blessing that we have the opportunity to get which ever surgery we decide on. Trust that its not just luck, it's meant to be. We struggle so long with food and not feeling worthy or believing in anything. Be grateful for your surgery and trust that you will be successful. Give yourself a chance and remember God does for us what we can't do for ourselves, God doesn't do for us what we can do for ourselves. His part is done, just fllow your diet plan and believe in yourself. Have a blessed day and know that I to thought my surgery was a failure and unsuccessful after 30lbs in 2 months. Its a mental state of conditioning and I had to recondition myself to believe in me and trust God.

Hey Kionna, Well, you have now 2 options: 1- give up, go back to the food you that made you end up having a surgery (just like the rest of us did!) 2- forcing yourself to realize that your surgery is still recent, that you're not at your sweet spot yet, stick to the right things to do (smart food choices and exercise), enjoy the Non Scales Victories and be patient ! YOU WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT!!!!!! The band is only a tool, if you keep doing your part, it will work: it's mechanical and can't fail!!!! Keep us posted, we want to know how you're doing! Ghislaine

I agree with Ghislaine, you can either give up or keep on fighting. I don't know about you, but I choose to never, never, never give up. If you get your fills and follow the LapBand rules, you will lose the weight slowly and steadily over a longer period of time. Cut yourself some slack. You have just survived major surgery and most likely have not hit your sweet spot with your amount of restriction. Once you get adequate restriction, exercise every day, drink lots of water, avoid carbonation, take your vitamins and eat 70% protein and 30% veggies at meals and do the emotional work... you can't help but be successful. It's not easy, but, nothing worth having is. Are you staying under 30gms of carbs per day or do you have one of those surgeons who has you counting calories? We stay under 30 gms carbs per day and it is very successful. We don't count calories, fat or anything else. Please go to support groups, begin journaling and working through your emotions and not feeding them, get your fills and it will happen. Hang in there and be gentle with yourself. Also, begin the practice of positive self talk. It's very important. Best of luck, Dawn Vickers
