Question:
Recovery time after Tummy Tuck

I hade my tummy tuck on Jan 5, 2006 and still walk bent over. Is this normal? My surgeon thinks this is but I hear different stories from people. I am just frustrated about how long my recovery is taking.    — latzylove (posted on February 11, 2006)

I was bent over for less than 1 week after my tummy tuck. Both my ps and my mom(a surgical nurse) explained to me pre-surgery that the sooner you stand up straight the sooner you will heal and the less pain you will be in when you stand up straight. I forced myself to stand/walk up straight, no matter how it felt. Understand that no 2 people are the same and some people take longer to heal than others. A friend of mine had her tummy tuck and 4 months later you could hardly find her scar, I had mine 7 months ago and my scar is still very visible. Be sure to talk to your surgeon if you have questions or concerns. By the way, congratulations on your surgery.

Everyone recovery time is different. Just because a couple of people recovery time was shorter does not mean your will be too. One of the worst things to do in get caught up by the stories you may read. Just listen to YOUR own surgeon and follow whatever it is he say.

I had an abdominoplasty with lots of muscle work done and a hernia repaired. I was 48 years old and able to walk upright after about 3 days. And yes, it hurt like nobody's business. Most painful surgery I have ever had and it took a full month before I could go back to work. (I went back full time on the 12th day after my lap RNY.) Maybe I was more motivated to straighten up because being bent over was absolutly killing my back!
