Question:
I'm almos Two years postop and I am gaining weight

What foods should I be eating to start losing weight again? I have gained 17 lbs all of a sudden. My eating habits are back as they were pre op. Can anyone give me a sample of a menu of foods I should be eating to lose again?    — geoprism123 (posted on January 14, 2006)

You are normal so do not panic. This is something that happen, as we get futher out we tend to fall back into our old habits. Also our pouches are now fully matured and can hold more food then at the beginning. We also tend to experiment more the futher out we get. So to get back on track is simple. Go back to the beginning and start all over. Go on protein drinks only for one week and then slowly add high in protein foods. This will help you get off of all of the "bad" foods that may be eating now and get you re-focused. Then you also need to get back to basic exercise. You know what to do you just need to DO IT! Good Luck and keep me posted, Moncia Ganz, Ph.D.

Pat, at 2-1/2+ years out, this is my routine on "good" days: B: 1 protein shake (35 grams protein) S: Coffee/creamer/splenda L: 1 cup kidney beans (for protein) or piece of chicken 2 cups of salad S: 2 tangerines or other fruit D: A small amount of whatever the family is having. S: 1 protein drink Light popcorn More fruit/cheese, etc. Monica really put it best though. I just thought maybe a normal day from someone might shed some more light. Missy.

Hi, my bariatric coordinator said when she gains weight or eats things she shouldn't, she just bumps up her water intake, her protein intake and excerise. She is 4 yrs post op RNY. Hope this helps. Kristy

Latest research does show that we loose some of our fill over time (Osmosis) and my surgeon recommends that we get our fills checked and topped up every couple of years or when like you, our prebanding appetities begin to return or we begin putting on weight. My recommendating is therefore to get the volume of your fill checked. Cheers

It's time to join the Grad list. No guarantee that you'll get the rest of the wt off, but there's also the trick of maintaining the loss you have achieved. There is a lot of combined long term experience on this list and I'd recommend it in conjunction with this site and any local lists you use. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG -

Pat, increasing the frequency, duration, intensity and variety of your workout program can help you lose that regained weight. Best of luck. Kasey 365/210 (nonop)
