Question:
My doctor found two small masses growing on my liver

I Am wondering what could cause this...i had an extensive work up of my digestive system prior to surgery by a G.I specialist and all liver functions are normal post op. Does anyone know what this could be??? I am terribly afraid and just want some insight as an mri is not shceduled anytime soon.    — SUZANNE J. (posted on January 31, 2002)

During surgery my surgeon found something unusual about my liver and bioopsied it. Its common in the MO and turned out to be nothing, so dont panic. Side affect of being MO. They said mine were fat nodules or something like that. Please come back here and let us know how it comes out.

You should call your doctor for some reassurance, but typically, if there's something that is really a concern to a physican they don't "wait". Too much liability. If there was a concern they'd do testing NOW to find out exactly what is going on. It may be something, but chances are, it's not serious enough for them to feel "urgency". That's good news for you!

During my surgery the doctor found a growth on my liver as well as my liver being enlarged and covered with lots of fatty tissue. He did a biopsy and sent it to the liver specialist. He told me if there was anything to be concerned about that the liver specialist would call me.. but my doc felt that it was something that losing weight would cure.... It has been nearly 3 months and I have not heard from the liver doctor. All my liver function tests are well within normal limits so I am not going to worry... I did ask A LOT of questions though!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello. I was researching this question because I had my pre-surgery consult with the doctor and he said the gall bladder ultrasound found a small mass on my liver. Talk about scared!! He also said though that it is very common and I shouldn't worry. He said that he would take a look during surgery and if he thought it necessary, he would do a biopsy. I share your worries though. I am hoping to wake up from surgery and find it was nothing. Take care.
