Question:
How do I get in enough protein without eating too much?

I have trouble with protein powders,so try to eat more protein by food intake. But than think I eat too much. I know i'm not getting enough protein and my weight loss is slowed way down to two pounds per week. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.    — JOANNFV (posted on July 2, 2009)

I've found that non-fat Greek yogurt works well for me. It has 22g protein per cup. I doctor mine up with equal so it's not so sharp tasting and sometimes add vanilla, a tsp of jam or whatever sounds good at the time. It only has 130 calories. Hope this helps

Joann.... go to www.bariatriceating.com. They've got a boatload of delicious protein powders that are LOW calorie (100 - 132) with 1 gram of carbs and 23 - 25 grams of protein. It's called Inspire, and they have lots of delicious flavors. You can mix them into Fage yogurt for a sweet breakfast with 30 grams of protein, you can drink them a couple of times a day for your in-between-meals-snacks, etc. You can also get some of the stuff they sell online at your local Vitamin Shoppe - like Synthrax Nectar Sweets - comes in Chocolate Truffle, Roadside Lemonade, Fuzzy Navel - or Lean Desserts, which come in Fresh Cinnamon Bun, or Chocolate Coconut Candy Bar, or Chocolate Fudge, or Vanilla Creme - or Oh Yeah Ready to Drink Protein Drinks (especially vanilla, which can be used to flavor your coffee or mixed with other sugar-free DaVinci Syrups (which www.bariatriceating.com sells something like 32 flavors of on her website). I have an Inspire Peanut Butter shake every night for my before bed snack, and it's filling and delicious, and I don't feel like I'm being left out at all. And my weight is still going down. Not as quickly as I'd like it, but down nonetheless. And I'm just a little more than 16 weeks out, and have lost 64 pounds since surgery, almost 90 all total.

Since we can't drink carbonated drinks anymore, I have found a bottled, flavored drink to take the place of cokes (pop, whatever). Isopure is a protein drink with milk whey that I get at either HEB here in Texas or Nutrition Depot (cheaper than grocery store and more flavors.) I love the grape flavor; my husband likes the tea flavor or tropical fruit punch flavor(REALLY sweet!) There are probably a dozen flavors and there will be several you'll probably like. 40 grams of protein per 20 oz bottle...160 calories. Still have had no hair loss 4 months out! I also drink Protein Max, THE best tasting protein powder ever. Check out The World According to Eggface website for many scrumptious protein powder recipes, including protein powder ice cream. You can do this!
