At most, I think I'd only try eating some of the cheese and meat toppings. In my opinion, it would be flirting with disaster to eat the crust. Just be careful and don't over do it. I know we all have to splurge a little, occasionally. But I do caution you into falling into old habits. Good luck!

I had surgery 13 days ago and today I had a smart ones roast beef with mushroom and mash potatoes for lunch (although I only ate about 1/3 of it), for dinner I grilled Salmon and nibbled on very small pieces. It settles well as long as I take small bites and chew it very good and I'm very careful not to eat too much. I guess everyone is different but my program is full liquids for one week after surgery then pureed foods for the second week and on to soft foods for week 3. I don't really know what the big deal is about breads but a craker felt like I was swallowing a rock so be careful.

i was told to wait 5 weeks before eating "normal" food. you might be able to eat about a third of a slice of pizza. i personally would avoid it because it doesn't make sense to start eating stuff like pizza right away.

I'm not supposed to have bread, pasta, rice, or steak until I'm 8 mos. out. I think you will be asking for trouble if you try pizza now. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I am almost 6 months out and have eaten pizza once. Basically I blotted as much grease off as possible and only ate the cheese topping - no crust or anything. I was able to eat about 1/3 of the cheese off 1 slice. The thing I am finding is that I don't have alot of dumping. I am starting to experiment with foods now, and, as with the pizza, I was able to tolerate it with no problem. Now I have to fight with my head to not want to go back to the old ways. My suggestion is that if you can avoid it, especially this early out, do. I don't think at 4 weeks I could have tolerated pizza, but everyone is different.

First of all, I would follow your surgeons advice. Each doctor is different in what they want you to do. My surgeon has said no breads, pasta, rice or potatoes AT ALL - for ever! His reasoning is this - when you eat these carbs, they immediately turn to sugar. Sugar stimulates feelings of hunger, making you want to eat more. Also, you need to concentrate first on getting the right amount of protein - it is difficult enough to get in our protein for the very fact that our stomachs are so small. By filling up on breads, we don't have room for the protein we so desperately need. Remember protein is needed to maintain your muscle mass - and your organs are composed of muscle! Lastly, our new tool is just that - it is a tool to limit how much we eat - but we have to change WHAT we are putting into it in order to maintain (or return to) good health. Why go back to eating the same things that got you where you are today? I know it is hard - I struggle with this daily. Whatever you decide, best of luck! And congrats on the surgery!

Sorry, this may sound harsh, but why did you go through the trouble of surgery and then want to eat pizza? My surgeon told me 3 weeks of liquids, 3 weeks of soft/pureed foods and then to slowly reintroduce more solid foods. Your pouch is still healing. I think you are setting yourself up to fail by choosing something like pizza, plus you may really regret it, but it's your life. Good luck.

Tiesha, You asked for prayer because you were scared to death prior to surgery. You lost your best friend from High blood sugar on your sons birthday, and at 4 weeks you want to eat pizza. You know in your heart the answer. You just needed to reach out for some kindness and understanding from the folks here at OH.com. And we are glad you did. Stay strong for that baby of yours and never stop reaching out. I wish I would have many years ago when I was as young as you.Don't blow it. We are here for you.

As with any WLS, you have made a huge change to your body in order to get healthy and at a normal weight. Eating pizza is not the way to get there. You need to start now making better choices than the ones that got you to the point of needing surgery. Even after a year, I still don't eat bread, even though I can, because I know it is a downfall of mine. And I LOVED pizza before. I don't mean to say you should never, ever again eat these foods, but not for several months and then only on rare occasions. I just want you to be the best you can be at this.

I am glad it worked out ok for you. But at only a month I was still on soft foods and pizza would not be soft. Everyone is differant though. It is hard in social situations to find foods that work well sometimes.

I will tell you what has been told to me "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" Your going to do what you want to do anyway. My suggestion is ask yourself is it worth it. You will only be able to eat a corner if that, then you have to wait 30 mins. to drink water. This is an old habit coming back to bite you. Remember this weight loss journey is a mental journey as well. Your cravings for pizza will only last for 8 mins. if that think of something else or do something else. I tried it it's now worth it, you wanna lose weight not gain weight. Good luck!!!!!

True each surgeon is different, mine says that its 2weeks fluid, 2weeks puree (that sounds thrilling), and 2weeks soft solids.. but i do agree on why pizza only a month out..

I agree with all above. I had a lapband 9 weeks ago. I have been very tempted by the smell of pizza when I order it for my kids, and I know for me since I have very little restriction at this point, that I could eat it. But I wait at least 10 minutes, weighing the calories, and do I really want to waste that many of my 1000 calories I allow myself on a piece of pizza. Like everyone else, I had full liquids for the 1st week, then pureed for 2 weeks, then semi soft foods for 2 weeks and no breads - pasta's for 2 months. The other nite when I was tempted by the pizza feeling I sliced a tomato, put some low cal chesse over it, and some thin sliced deli turkey. I broiled it in the oven and it was yummy, very few calories, and took care of the pizza urge. Good luck on your journey. We all have our hang ups, and were here if ya need us.
