It seems to me that after 8 months you should have lost more than 40 lbs. I lost 90 in 9 months and I thought I lost slowly. My nutritionist said that I should be getting 50 grams of protein daily and having fruits, veggies and good carbs. If you are working out, drinking water and getting protein in, obviously there's a problem. You need to speak with your doctor and nutritionist if you haven't already to find out what's wrong. In the beginning you should be losing around 10-12 lbs a month and then it will slow down to maybe 5 lbs a month. I don't know how much you need to lose total, I am at my goal weight (actually a few lbs less) and I am now trying to maintain. Your body should still be malabsorbing. Please consult your group ASAP and certainly step up your protein, maybe you are malnourished???

If you are working out like that, you may be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. You must talk with your dr. and look into a support group in your area. Your Dr. should be aware of one.

It is a simple problem of calories in and calories out. Pehaps your metabolisum has slowed way down. So you have to kick start it again. Go back to liquids for 3 days and have nothing but the 2nd stage diet. It really isn't so bad. Don't get so discouraged, your not the first, it can be fixed. Increase your activity a little and you will start to lose once again. I just went to support group at the Weight Loss Center and one of the gals had the same problem. She did this and bingo, she lost 5 pounds right away. Try it and see. Good luck!!!

Back to break that common MYTH "muscle weighs more than fat" NO NO NO IT DOES NOT!!! A lb of muscle weighs as much as a lb of fat!!!!!! Sounds like your in a plateau. Go ahead and stop drinking your protein if you want possible problems down the road! Since your body has possibly gotten used to what your exercise routine is--CHANGE IT! You need to shock your body by doing something different, and when was the last time you noticed that you lost inches instead of weight? Have you bothered keeping up with that? You are probably losing a great deal of inches and because fat takes up a great deal more space than lean muscle you are dissolving the fat and gaining the lean muscle! Keep the faith and also have a check up with your surgeon, make sure everything is as it should be. Good luck and God bless!!!!!!

Don't cry too hard. It will make your beautiful eyes puffy. I eat bread. I eat Vermont brand protein bread that has at least 3 grams of fiber per slice and less than 1gram of fat per slice. I eat carbs. I eat brown rice, bulgar, barley, cous cous, air popped popcorn and tons of Wasa. I eat lots of fruit. Lots of veggies. And I refuse to force feed myself 64oz of water a day. I've lost 120 pounds and am still losing. I work out (walking, stationary bike) 45 minutes a day 6 days a week. You're not doing anything wrong except maybe eating less than your body needs and forcing it to hold onto fat. Read Overcoming Overeating by Hirschmann and Munter and be well!!

I totally agree with Lisa in the comment left just before mine! You are possibly starving yourself. It seems I eat a lot these days but its the food choices that I make that are healthy and I DO NOT DRINK THAT MUCH WATER.... I also hit a platuea and had to find out what the problem was thats when i was told I was not taking in enough calories and my body was retaining the fat because it thought it was starving. Most of all stay positive and stay honest with yourself! The one thing that can ruin this surgery is sugar intake..... alcohol consumption can totally ruin this surgery as well not that you drink by any means but these are things people don't always realize. When i had my surgery there was a guy my surgeon was dealing with that was not loosing weight and he would tell the nutrionist what he was eating but would not tell them what he was drinking....The doctor finally told him he couldn't help him because he couldn't find a problem with his surgery...The man came clean about his 6 pack aday of beer and then he began to loose weight :) YEAAA Finally he was on track... HAVE A BLESSED DAY, Sherrie

Yvette, don't get too discouraged. I agree with Sherrie: liquid sugar intake can defeat the surgery. Make sure your protein shake isn't loaded with carbs. Also, maybe ask your doctor to check your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)...hypothyroidism could decrease your metabolism. Good luck.

Yvette, my heart goes out to you. I hope that you are able to overcome all of this and achieve whatever your goal is. All of this said, I have to make a comment about the "one pound of fat and one pound of muscle weigh the same." This is true but misleading, you have to take into account of the volume of the substances you a measuring... a pound of fat takes up much more space than a pound of muscle. The idea being you will get smaller in size but not see the equivalent amount of weight loss. Best wishes.
