Question:
Lap RNY incision pain. OUCH!

Hi everyone. I was wondering how long there is pain on that left side incision where the drain was? I had RNY on Tues. May 5th and came home on the 7th. Friday the 8th, I couldn't even roll over in bed because that left side hurt so bad. Well 2 days later it felt better and this tuesday at the 1 week mark, I am back to that awful pain again! OUCH! I thought I was getting better then bam, the pain is back. How long does this last? I feel awful and I wasn't expecting it a week out from the surgery. Could I have someting wrong inside? My surgeon saw me yesterday to remove the drain and said the site looked irritated but not infected. I hate to call him when I just saw him yesterday and he kinda blew me off about how bad it still hurts. He told me to rest. What should I do?    — deemarie65 (posted on May 14, 2009)

he blew you off? doesn't sound very nice. I would call him again and let him know how you feel. Brian ps he's a doctor, not God.

Hi As a doctor I'm sorry your surgeon blew you off. Having the drain in place can keep that side irritated especially since the port on the left is the one they do the most manipulating in surgery and therefore is commonly the one that causes the most pain. Also since he just removed the drain that probably irritated the tract the drain was in stirring up the pain again but he should still address your questions. I wouldn't hesitate to contact the office again to ask him. As Brian pointed out he is not God but he should be your willing resource when you have questions. Kevin

I had VSG and the drain was on the right. It hurt some after removal but healed. I had a reaction to the sutures and two sites got infected. I had to take an antibiotic. I'm 7 weeks out ant the last of the suture pieces came out today. I feel great now and I really hope you feel better soon. I agree with the others too that you should contact your doctor and let him know how much pain your in. Hopefully he won't blow you off this time. Lisa

gee i hope you feel better soon. we have the same anniversay date only mine was last year. also started at the same weight. i now weigh 146. good luck to you!!!!
