I was banded on 11/12/07 and have not had an issue with vomiting. I have been carefully following the surgeons directions and weighing all my food. I was only on liquids for 48 hours then soft foods for a week. After that I went right to normal foods. My guess is that since I have been measuring everything and chewing very carefully that has kept me from having an issue. Best of luck!

My husband was banded on November 16 -- I believe each person is different. He has been careful to take in liquids and soft food at first and has gradually be adding foods to see how he reacts. He does not weigh anything but he stops eating as soon as he is full. No vomiting hopefully that will continue. He is scheduled for his first fill the first week in January. Just remember that the lap band is only a tool to help you change your eating habits -- he choose the lap band because ultimately he will be able to eat more normally as opposed to the gastric. Good luck

I was banded on October 5th and only vomited in the hospital. I've had my first fill and still no problems with vomiting. I'm overall very happy with the system and I'm losing about 2 pounds a week.

I was banded August 9th and have lost 46 lbs with no vomiting. I have only had one fill to date. I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat.

I was banded April 19, 2007. I have had 4 fills. I had 1 "productive belch" when at lunch I tried to eat grilled chicken that was too dry. I have irritable bowel and before surgery would routinely vomint 1-2 times a month. I have not vomited at all since the surgery.

Hi Holly, I am just newly banded. I was banded 3 days ago on Friday. I have so far not had any nausea or vomiting. Not when I was in the hospital or since I came home. I had surgery at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning and was home by 4:30 p.m. that afternoon and had a 1 hour drive. Good luck to you. Brenda

Hi Holly! I was banded on 2/13/07. I did not experience any vomiting until my 2nd fill. The vomiting was a result of me eating bread. Since then, I have also experienced vomiting when I try to eat that "last bite", when I should have stopped earlier. I have also vomited as a result of eating too fast instead of slowly so I could recognize the signals that my pouch was full. Basically, every time I vomit, I learn something new or I realize what "golden rule" I failed to follow. Vomiting isn't pleasant, but if it happens, just figure out why and that will help you prevent vomiting in the future. BTW, I have lost 91.5 lbs. and am only about 20 lbs from my goal, and I too would do this again in a heartbeat - vomiting and all!

I was banded on 9/18/2007, and I have not had issues with Vomiting. After my first fill, I had one instance where I struggled a bit to get something down, however, I did not vomit. I am two and a half months out, and no issue. I am careful to chew well, however, I have not experienced much that I simply could not eat.

Sorry, I can't add anything helpful to the responses. But I wanted to say that if fear of vomitting is keeping you from getting surgery, there are some very effective medications that your doctor will most likely prescribe for you to have on hand, just in case. I use phenergan...both pills and suppositories and Zofran...a tiny freeze dried tab that melts on your tongue. The Zofran is expensive but the Phenergan is pretty cheap and will most likely be covered by any insurance plan. Best wishes.
