Question:
How do I know if I have food stuck in my pouch opening?

Hi, I am four weeks post op, and three days ago, my doctor told me I could start soft foods, I made some Hamburger Helper with ground turkey and after about three bites, I had to throw up. Now I have pain in my abdomin when I take a semi-deep breath. Do I have something stuck or is it just from vomiting? I have vomited all soft food I have eaten in those three days, but didn't have the pain until now. Any answers would help. Thanks    — Jana M. (posted on December 2, 2001)

you need to try and go back to liquids for 24 hours if its not any better than call your dr

When I have had something stuck, it hurts up high, like right between my breasts, under the band of my bra. It feels like a lot of pressure. So this doesn't sound to me like something's stuck. So, I agree; if the pain's not better pretty quickly, I'd call the Doc & see what they say. good luck.

If something is stuck then it wont go down and you will do "the stuck dance" and eventually vomit it back up. I think however you should call your surgeon and let them know. At 5 weeks out what I could eat the day before I was unable to eat that day... and it turned out my stoma closed and I needed an endoscopy, so you can never be sure. Go back to liquids until you speak to your surgeon I would say. And make that ASAP. Hope it goes well for you!
