i had my gastric bypass on Jan,29, 09. I don't regret it one bit. The first 3-5 days are the worst and i almost lost hope thinking that i had made the biggest mistake of my life, now OMG i have never felt so beautiful or worthy. Take it one day at a time, one sip at a time and don't be in a rush to eat, remember you did not wake up obese one day even though it may feel that way. so go slow and remember you are going to be the best you've ever been. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi Clayton I'm happy for you. I will be getting mine soo just as soon as I get my date. My prayers will be with you. Everyone tells me take it slow so I will tell you the same. Don't rush relax and enjoy the new life that is set before you. God Bless you Theresa L

Hi Clayton, I agree with above replies. The key the first couple of days is to walk, walk, walk. This cuts down on chance of both pneumonia and blood clots plus each time you walk it gets a little easier the next time. Follow your surgeons guidelines on advancing your diet. I had my lap rny on March 9th was walking 2 miles by the 16th and back at work on the 23rd. I'm 48 years old and my starting BMI was 53 (354lbs). I am now eating shrimp, scallops, cottage cheese, chicken, etc--slowly and carefully--- and have lost 45 pounds since surgery. Good luck with everything and will keep you in prayer. Kevin

All the best to you, Clayton! You will not regret your decision as long as you do what your doctor and nutritionist advise. As the Quakers say, "I will keep you in the light".

Utilize the pain pump...They take it away far too soon! I'm kidding...kind of! LOL Really though, walk...walk and walk some more! It helps so much with gas and to get the new plumbing moving again. Don't be surprized if the within the first week you ask yourself "What the *hello* did I do to myself"? That will soon pass as the pain lessens, the eating becomes easier...and the weight begins to melt off...It takes time...and while you are living it day to day , time seems to crawl by slowly...But give yourself a year to appreciate the first few weeks post op! It all gets better...Just remember that! Be blessed!

Congradulations! While doing your walking, bring your ipod or mp3 player to help keep your mind occupied.

Hey Clayton. Like others, I'm sure you will do fine and agree walking will be your best chance of having fewer complications. My only advice would be to make sure you get a copy of your operative report (never know when you may need it) and to find out all you can about proper supplementation and long term care (don't rely on your doc/dietician in this dept. they seldom know how to take care of us properly).

Hi Clayton, I was blessed to be able to stay in the hospital for three days, that really helped! When you get home, use your pillow support as you get in and out of a chair; also, really move slowly doing the important stuff, taking a shower, up and down steps, etc. I kept on the pain meds for the first 3 or 4 days also. That helped too. I had my surgery April 1st, so today is day 15 for me. I always feel like we came "out of the closet". I'm 15 days out, etc. Oh well, I have a warped sense of humor. I almost backed out but am glad that now I have it over with. Take care. Carol
