Question:
I am four years out and have gained 27 lbs

I am a little over fours years post op and have gained 27 lbs. I hate water and I know that I should exercise more but what is a good diet or good dieting plan that I can do to get this weight plus a little more off?    — Colette B. (posted on January 3, 2008)

I feel your pain. I am 4 years out and have gained 26. I think this is just the size I am going to be. I am happy with it. I wear an 8 or a 10. I have been this size for at least a year. I know my problem is I snack at work and they aren't always the best choices. We eat out alot too. I notice if I up my water in take and cook more at home. The pounds do start to come off. If you find a good diet, let me know. I would like to drop about 10 before the summer. My husband wants me to start jogging. ICK!

My suggestion to jump start weight loss is go back to basics. Do the liquid diet (preop or post) for a week or two - or as long as you can stand it. Most people lose a significant amount of weight doing it. I know I lost around 20. I would encourage that, keep up with your vitamins and supplements and or course - get your water in - or crystal light - or iced tea - any liquid will do and a minimum of a liter day - stay hydrated!! Good luck. OH...exercise...walk around the block, take the stairs, park far from the restaurant or store you are going to - all of the extra steps will add up. Just be conscience of doing more and it will add up. If you have a gym or treadmill - walk during commercials while watching TV. Or do your housework to music and dance and sing - makes the work more fun and you use more energy. Just silly things I do that all add up.

I'm not sure what type surgery you have, if it's a lapband you should see your surgeon - you may need a fill since the saline can evaporate over time. If it's RNY, you're going to have to do the diet/exercise thing. (Actually even if you're a band you should do the diet/exercise but a fill might help. The suggestion to do the liquid diet is a good idea. Another thing you could try is meal replacement. I have a friend (non-surgical weight loss) and she does 1 - 2 meal replacements per day. She takes a protein shake rather than the meal. You might try that. Good luck.
