Question:
Has Anyone had to coordinate Insur. and self pay for RNY and Hernia?

I have a hernia that needs to be repaired. This can be done at the time I have RNY. My insurance want cover RNY but I certainly don't want to have two seperate surgeries. What are my leal right here? HELP!    — DIANE S. (posted on September 25, 2001)

Try split billing. Your insurance should cover a portion of the hospital bill, the hernia repair, and anesthia. You will have to of course pay for the RNY but it will be much cheaper than having to pay for the whole procedure.

Hi - I recently went through this exact situation. I had an open RNY and also had a hernia repaired. The hospital billing department handled the whole thing for me. They billed the insurance company for the hernia and I paid the remaining balance. I ended up paying less for my WLS then I thought I would. It worked to my advantage to have a hernia that needed repairing.
