Question:
Do u crave food right away?

Hi everyone! I'm having WLS (lap) done on 11/22. I'm so nervous!! Its crazy. I'm actually starting to doubt myself, just cause I'm so scared which I know is normal. I'm just afraid I won't be able to live life happily with my new stomach. Anyway...my Q is this- I'll be coming home on Thanksgiving day and I'm so worried that I'm going to smell all that wonderful food and want it. Right after surgery do u usually want food or are u grossed out by it? I'm hoping I won't crave things till after I'm on my feet. Another Quick thing I wanted to ask was whats with the hair loss? Do you loose a lot? I mean is it noticable? I would hate to finally be thin but balding. Any advice or suggestions would be wonderful!!! Thanx    — Liza Y. (posted on November 14, 1999)

Liza: I had open RNY on 8/5/99 and didn't really want anything to eat for about 5 weeks. I still don't get really hungry, so I guess that's good. I'm just past 3 months and haven't had any hair loss yet (knock on wood), but I am really trying to make sure I get my recommended protein in. Good luck to you. Clo

Hi, Liza. I am just 16 days post-op, and I can tell you that on the first few days, all I wanted was my broth and jello. Now, a few short weeks later, I am hungry, but not craving anything. I would like a few bites of chicken, but can only have it in soup. Nothing is really wanted so badly that I feel I am denying myself. Try not to worry about it - there's always next year! I got dibbs on the turkey carcass to make soup. I love turkey! So you could consider that!

I know this is an old message... but I figured I'd answer anyway, I can get it off my chest :o) since the craving is driving me crazy.. My stomach is not hungry, but my head wants everything! man... every single food commercial that comes on tv. Out of any given 10 minute period of this day, I can honestly say that I have been thinking about cheese burgers.. I sure hope it gets easier..
