Question:
How does steroid therapy affect the ability for WLS?

I have severe asthma and COPD and often wind up on weeks of oral steroids in order to breathe. How long does one need to be off the steroids and does WLS reduce these illnesses?    — Diane S. (posted on June 30, 1999)

My doctor told me, that I had to be off of steroids 12 before surgery. Back in 1979, I had lost 110 lbs. and was able to get off all asthma medicine. I am hoping for the same this time too. Good luck

I was on 120 mg of prednisone every day and had been for about 18 months prior to surgery..I had SEVERE asthma....I NEVER have to do any treatments or take ANY meds for asthma anymore..and it dissapeared almost instantly after the surgery..it was really weird..There is a doctor at the MAYO clinc doing a study on how WLS affects asthma and COPD De
