Question:
Anchor Cut vs. Hip to Hip Incision?

Hi! I posted this same thing on the plastic surgery message board, but thought I might be able to get some answers over here as well... I am scheduled for my TT () on 7/13. My surgeon said to me at my initial consult that she would be doing a hip to hip incision, not an anchor cut. She said I will have a flat belly by doing the hip to hip (Not that I wouldn't by having an anchor cut). My 1st question is this: I discovered yesterday in a dressing room with a bunch of mirrors that I have rolls on my back. I had never really noticed them before because I never see my back. Would an anchor cut TT help "iron" those rolls out? I'm certain that a hip to hip incision won't do anything to the back rolls. The rolls are really more like a little bit on the outside part of my back, and there's only a couple. Not looking for a lower body lift. Tummy tuck is being done due to a fairly extreme amount of skin (panni) that is causing skin rashes/irritations under the panni and in the belly button. My 2nd question is this: Does anyone know if the insurance approval would be different between an anchor cut incision TT and a hip to hip incision? I'm going to call my insurance in a little while, but wanted to see if any of you would know this. Thanks in advance! Paula 250/143/130-135ish    — sunneegirl (posted on June 17, 2005)

Easiest answer first--question 2 ...Insurance approval is based on medical need for the procedure. Different incision may increase surgery time and therefore cost. question 1...Common thought is that an anchor incision allows better removal of "love handles" and a better result for the midrif. TT is not going to help the back. I had a LBL and got wonderful results. I now have an hourglass figure. A close friend had the hip to hip incision and is unhappy with her midrif rolls.Good luck.
