I haven't had any PS yet but I would think based on my experience with other surgeries I've had, your doctor will be your best resource to decide when and if you can travel and what the restrictions are. I would think it would be and individual decision based on your specific condition. That sounds awfully soon after surgery to me.

I am just thinking of how I felt as an RNY post op. I don't think I would have been able to sit in a car for that length of time so soon. I hear that TT is often a tougher recovery. I just had a lap gall bladder removal last week, and was out to dinner 2 days later. That was an easy one in comparison to the RNY. I would ask my Dr., but being able to tolerate the sitting position in the car may be different than a Dr. permitting it. Oh, and most Drs. like to see you a week post-op anyway. Good luck!

Please, do not plan a trip that soon after surgery unless you get your doctor's permission. It is not just the pain factor here...you may be at risk for dvts or p.e.s (blood clots) if you are sedentary after surgery. (Riding in a car on a trip is definitely sedentary.) This is a very serious consideration. PLEASE PLEASE discuss this with your doctor. Take good care! Plan wisely! Jackie. (who has experienced the wrath of post op blood clots.)

I have had both tt/ hernia repair last november -- thought after all my other surgeries it wouldn't be so bad -- and it wasn't --but i dont think i would have been able to travel so soon. I had three drains that stayed in for various amounts of time --the longest three weeks. while they were not painful --they were a pain to have.also, believe it or not about a week after surgery just when i was starting to feel almost human again was when i got the worst of the post-op pain. that is when the nerves that were cut in surgery are begining to heal. wow-- was i suprised. had to take percocet --that's how bad it got. Don't get me wrong, i was not confined to the house or anything but still had a much longer recovery than i expected. riding in the car was not fun-walking was easier although more tiring. Check with your doctor--they may want you to keep closer to home for a few weeks.and dont forget the post-op visits that you will surely be required to have.
